I find it funny how there are a lot of people who actually think that is the White House. My cousins are some of them.

Well, you're all crazy-- how in the hell could you think that the U.S capitol looks cheap or is the "white house", i have no idea. Its one of the most impressive government buildings in the world -- look at that detailing and that gorgeous dome.

I think they were referring to the stereotypical "neo-classical" look that many of the government official buildings around the world adopts, not just the U.S. one. Personally, I think it looks fine.

The original was built in the early 1800's, and was later modified to its current version in 1863. This is the style they had back then for building it. BTW, it became a popular model for most state capitols, though they were altered a bit for their own distinction.

The original dome was smoother and had no detail on it. The rework on it really helped it but still not my favourite!
