Check out this footage of Steau V Rapid from 1985.

Overflowing crowd. Spectators seated on the running track, and in the stands you can see them packed-in like sardines (check the video at 1:25-1:30 approx) with the odd unfortunate spectator forced to stand side-on to the field. I could only imagine how many fans must have damaged a bladder as they would not have been unable to get to the toilets once the had taken their positions.

Must have been at least 100,000 in stadium.

The location is very very good in renderings. It seems to be surrounded by housing complex with huge population. Perfect place to draw people into stadium.

If I'm right (though I'm not a Russian speaker, so correct me if not, anyone), this place is only planned to be that densily populated. It's not like that yet, but indeed looks like quite some potential. As if being in Moscow itself and being called Spartak wasn't enough

- The stadium will meet the highest standards of spectator safety and will fully provide for disabled spectators.
- The stadium will provide facilities for written and broadcast press segregated from public areas
- The club’s players, officials and staff will all enjoy new changing areas, operational areas and club offices.
- The VIP section will offer exceptional space to meet the increased expectation and demands for such areas.
- The stadium will have a state-of-the-art artificial pitch with the capability of being replaced by turf for major football tournaments.

In addition to the stadium, AECOM is also completing a masterplan for the site to include a 12,000-seat multi-purpose arena, and other leisure and retail facilities.
