After the awesome sight of this from the Thames Clipper tonight, I can only say I am sorry for forgetting to charge my camera battery.

Fantastic shots, good to see the total height finally moving upwards after months of being as tall as the core. Next stop, 309m!

How tall is it already 250m? can't get my head around it being any taller because it already seems so tall and dominating.

Does this now make it taller than Torre Caja Madrid andTorre de Cristal in Madrid??! ?
If so only Messeturm and Comerbank to go before being crowned!!!!

It looks pretty simple to put together, so If it's all on site then fairly quickly

Ok confused now, has the concrete been capped off now ?

Also I thought the steel work was going to be pre-assembled for the spire, the steel working going up here is not pre-assembled ??

Apart from that happy to see things going skyward !!

The spire steel was assembled for testing and then disassembled. The load is sent flatpack to the Shard site by truck, where they assemble it again but on top of the structure.
And no, the concrete core cap has not even been poured yet.

"We" may be getting slightly ahead of ourselves...

This steel is not technically "the spire" and only takes us up to level 72 (the same as the top of the core). It will be a couple more weeks until the final concrete slab is poured and the spire proper begins.

Sorry to spoil the party (and on my 200th post too).

Ffinybryn thanks for the update I can imagine the stresses on the spire are considerable how do they attach it to the core?

Some great pics here.

Question for you all.

What's the further you've seen the Shard distance wise.

I'm pretty sure I spotted it from the A2 just as you pass the Bluewater turn on the left which must be a good 15+ miles away.

I've seen some pics from Leith Hill on this forum.

Can anyone top this.

I'd imagine you could spot it from the hills of Surrey/Berkshire on a clear day.
