Nowt wrong with a bit of brick in a London building, especially when you consider the immediate context of the site.

Besides, it 'earths' it at ground level with its weight and the change in scale of units from the glazing panels; it also provides some nice texture. Even Mies van der Rohe wasn't averse to brick in his steel and glass buildings.

There's some more round on the side of The Shard on the station concourse. It's a rather attractive brick stock IMHO.

I was surprised, but pleased, to see the brickwork as it really anchors the building into London Bridge station and its arches. A very effective touch in my opinion.

It looks quite good with the street level cladding too, although I have to admit that I'm not quite sure about that yet. Reminds me too much of my school in the early 70's.

Well atleast its not in europe, i bet this hasn't been even approved yet.

Way to tall and cost a good bit.

I wouldn't worry to much, London's will be built first.

I think the Korean monster has actually started on site.. albeit a year late. I think it's quite nice for KPF given that most of what the produce is dull, functional and space intensive... hence why they get so much work!.... total piano rip off though

I havent really been following this thread very closely and i cant find when the shard will be open to the public

the hotel opens in 2013 so probably then...unless they open the viewing platforms late next year

The restaurants and viewing galleries have separate street entrances and lifts, so they could easily open them independently.

I think too that the render is not quite getting how transparent the tip of the tower will be in reality.

Yeah there are a few things off with that render , the glass is too matte i think it will shimmer more in reality.
