A friend of mine is 26, an interior architect, and has just started work designing the interiors for the Shangri-La hotel. I am so jealous!

Does your friend design little buildings to be built indoors then?

Yes, the photo also looks like it has a old type filter applied to it which makes it look quite cool as well.

Shouldn't they have started the hotel works as soon as level 52 was cladded?
In a few days time they should be fitting out all the appartments!

Often architects will just be commissioned to design a shell of a building, especially with office blocks. The floor-plates are left bare so that specialist (in this case) hotel architects are appointed to inject some character.

Interior architecture is sort of a cross between architecture and interior design, everything from partition walls & construction detailing, all the way down to nice curtains, and do the taps match the rug. I think of interior architecture as everything you can touch!

shame too because badly commissioned interior designers usually make a complete balls up of the interiors because they forget about the architecture.

I think that'd be a bit of a push! It is only externally completed in about April! - There's about a year of internal fit-out after that!

Also it's nowhere near the olympic park and has nothing to do with the games...

Best of the best? Did you see what Sisk did to the IBM campus? They were sacked before completion, summarily sued and then IBM hired in another contractor to gut everything Sisk had done and start again. Kcom and Global Crossing have both rejected bids from Sisk in the past too, in the ICT area they are a universal laughing stock....

Wonder who's parsnips they buttered for the opportunity to be considered for this project.
