Not really. The time to be depressed is when you were 50 fifteen years ago.But then you sort of learn to live with it and really enjoy every day, for obvious reasons.so it's ok. As for 2000 footers, I agree with you; they wouldn't work in a London context. Wouldn't mind a few more 1000 to 1250 footers , though. But the essential requirement is high quality, original and creative architecture for London. Size isn't everything (as far as I remember).

On Friday a hoist was erected outside the Guy's hospital tower, so the re-clad is on!

I have a contact working there at the moment and I suspect the hoist is for some of the major refits going on internally at the hospital (I heard something about asbestos removal). However, I might be wrong.

The Marathon commentators just talking about the Shard: "When it's completed, it will become the tallest building in western Europe. Not sure what they'll put on top of it - something sparkly, maybe?"

Beautiful helicopter footage of the Shard on BBC's marathon coverage just now. The cladding was gleaming in the sunshine.

Shard on marathon looks fantastic. For those who missed it,a great shot was at 1.05 mins and a great panorama (fenchurch looks very tall) at 1.08 mins. Must see!!
EDIT-i see a few caught those shots! Sparkly thing indeed. Hmm.
But then again,shard does have a sparkle sometimes...today :

Yeah the Shard is getting loads of attention on the TV today because of the London Marathon. (Canary Wharf was as well as usual)
