Yeah, I know this utterly trivial, but ...

... doesn't that window cleaning unit, at times, make the Shard a few feet higher? Especially when it may often be in the vertical position.

I would have thought grey/silver blind boxes would have suited the Shard more, these orange ones just don't blend in, in my opinion.

If you're at all familiar with any of Renzo Piano's other buildings, you'll know he always likes a splash of strong colour somewhere.

Foster's rather got us used to monochrome architecture

FAQ: The red things on The Shard are the blind boxes. The blinds themselves are grey.

The Shard's observation deck opens in Feb 2013: http://the-shard.com/the-view-from-the-shard

Yes the top is finished and will remain open to the elements. The exterior is (pretty much) complete.

Does anyone know why the very top of the shard is in a complete blackout tonight? Even the aircraft warning lights are out!

Just cycled past.. It looked well strange!

The use of LED lighting at the Heron has turned a mediocre building into something pretty spectacular at night. any thoughts on lighting for the final version of the Shard? Hopefully something that is a real statement

Surely only the spire will be able to have any lighting scheme at night, rather than the rest of the building? I say that because, seeing as the whole entire building is one great big window, residents in the apartments and guests at the hotel would be disturbed by any external lighting, surely. Unless there is some way of mounting lights that emit outwards without any light "bleed" or reflection/glare back through the glass?

I walked past at lunch and was amazed how blue the glass looked. The front certainly looks better than the rear

As I look up at the North Face from my desk this morning, the lower portion looks as dirty as I have ever noticed it. Makes me want to reach out and wipe "I wish my Girlfirend was this dirty" on the side. Also, on The Shard, at approximately level with the top of The Place cores there is a perfect circle cleaned in the dirt. Can't be an impact?

Wish I could get pics but I'm sure my phone won't do justice.

St. Georges hiding behind the yellow cranes to the right.. Starting to make a real impact on the skyline.

For a moment I thought you were in the same building as me!

You're not, but you must be very close. I should probably bring the camera to work and get another shot, I havent done so since the shard was finished.

Sure is.. View from the top of my house thought I'd share the views.. Changing constantly as Wandsworth has lots going on.. Can no longer see St.Pauls from here because of a new development.. Looks like EH missed that sight-line
