You're absolutely right. I wonder if it'll still be standing in 750 years, covered in scaffolding for years on end, as they rec-clad each side, and just when you think they've finished they start on the first side again, just like Sailsbury Cathedral.

Stunning renders by the way and a nice ambitious time scale from the sounds of that video interview.

Both are shown where the trees are.

They have been on Sellars website for at least a month through a link on the shard website (gallery-press). You can download 31.6.mb but have noticed Sellar seems to have a new site so maybe they are promoting them now with the announcement of construction.

Some pics of cladding & steelwork can be found here.

Wow, great news all round. Unbelievable that this is U/C.

Fantastic renders. Although I make an early prediction that the Shards at the top will whistle on windy days a-la Beetham Manchester!!

Officer Dib - how do you get your bananas to moonwalk dammit!!!!

I never noticed the small extensions at the bottom of the building until now. I would prefer them not to be there but they're small and invisible from most angles. They won't stop this from being one of the best skyscrapers ever built and one of London's finest ever buildings to boot.

Does anyone know much about the specification for the cladding? I remember Renzo saying something about white glass? not sure if this is still on the cards though.

great news all round. i give it 20yrs before EH list it, the clowns (not for listing it but for... well, y'know).

edit: i also reckon this thread, if it's not lost to a hacking or anything like that, will be of interest to future generations who want to look back at the history of what will end up being their iconic tower's development. seriously can see some kid stumbling across this thread in whatever form it's maintained in like 2050 and being fascinated by all the twists and turns, the vast amounts of pics of it going up, etc.

Gothic you little sex kitten, where've you been hiding those gems of pictures? Love the first one of LBT, I don't think I've ever seen a proper close-up of the tip of the tower before, looks even sharper and more crisp then I'd hoped for! The glass overrun is a brilliant addition to the overall design, whoever put that in should get an award!

Keep taking those photos guys, really appreciate it! Piles is now my new favourite word!

I do apologise jimbo, I should have known to look for trees as a sure sign of knowing where an observation deck is in a building
