A few shots from South East.
Note the emerging shape of the Shard's steelwork. ![]() ![]() Closer: ![]() In relation to the main cluster:

Great photo's in that light. The Shard will really stretch the skyline out a bit.

Is it me or does it seem as though the steelwork in SE9's picture would taper to a point long before it reaches 310m? It's almost as if the steelwork is too thin and the gradient of its slope is too steep so that it would reach a point at only twice the current height or something. Or is that we can only see some of the inner steelwork and not the outer shell in your photos, SE9?

heh, i think it's tricky to decide between the two, they both offer completely different things to the plate. The pinnacle has the best designs in terms of modern architecture, but the Shard has a simplistic beauty about it. Plus the Pinnacle will be a great addition to the cluster, making it look much much greater, but the Shard is great how it expands the skyline and stands out on its own.
I can't really decide.

Time for the rest of yesterday's tour, mostly with just the 70-200 lens, as I couldn't be arsed to change lenses and was enjoying myself

Shard is 23 (floors) this morning, with a metre or so of new concrete between stencil and slipform. Still growing...

Hi everyone. Great progress. As cybertect, chest et al have all contributed some fabulous photos I thought I would draw your attention to this free charity photo competition just launched in aid of Fight for Sight. Its looking for people's favourite photo of London and I suspect yours would stand out against the usual photos of Big Ben etc!!!
A worthy cause and you never know... you may win. http://myviewoflondon.org.uk/

Hopefully this won't breach any forum rules about spam...
![]() Thought I'd just mention that I have had a couple of my pics of The Shard published in a special issue of Japan Architect a+u magazine dedicated to Renzo Piano's buildings since 1989. ![]() http://www.shinkenchiku.net/shop_e/i...ok_code=411005 ![]() There are twelve pages dedicated to the London Bridge Tower. If you happen to be reading a copy, you'll find my photos on page 190. I should thank the guys at Renzo Piano's office for suggesting their inclusion.

Cybertect's first photo really shows that, as promised, the steelwork is now racing up! Thanks for all your contributions, cybertect, this lurker has really appreciated them over the past few months! And many congrats on getting your photos published - fully deserved.

Just thinking about the view from 800 feet up, the horizon will be 35 miles away, the area visible will be far larger than the official Greater London and will encompass over 3700 square miles including the homes of about a sixth of the UK population. I know this isn't entirely accurate because of course the North Downs at 800 feet will cut off the view in the Kent direction, and the view past the Canary Wharf buildings and the City will be obstructed, but even so that's a lot of territory ...
