Now, I presume the orange blinds are to prevent that 'white blind effect' that seems to affect so many of our towers, turning them into random clad shattered beauties during the summer months?

Good spot.

Here's what they should look like when attached.

So are the blinds all orange, or are they varied? Would be a bit pointless if all they were were all orange instead.

FAQ: The red things on The Shard are the blind boxes. The blinds themselves are grey.

The Shard's observation deck opens in Feb 2013: http://the-shard.com/the-view-from-the-shard

Yes the top is finished and will remain open to the elements. The exterior is (pretty much) complete.

More London looks ace in those shots, and very busy. The cladding looks so transparent that I can't comprehend (despite the test panels) how its going to look, it's going to blend into the sky so easily (I think... ) it'll be so sci-fi again. The moment we get some onto the steelwork it'll be overwhelming (and I can't believe how quick its got to this stage too!)

The cladding looks brilliant, just like the renders. Who's got the contract? Pilkington?

Right on que Darren with Rob's photos of More London! Although I'm not sure you can call MLP a "beauty".

I assume you live very close to St Katherine's Dock (nice area by the way).

Did you happen to see the Chinook helicopter that flew close to your home on Tuesday evening and the parachutists that jumped out of it?

Scheldebouw got the cladding contract I think... not sure who's doing the glass. Pilkington or St Gobain would be the usual suspects I guess.

Can't personally see any glass there, looks like a delivery of scaffolding to me.

As always, thanks to all those who take pictures of this especially cybertect.

^ No, it's definitely cladding, you can see the blinds, it's the centre rectangle sections in London Lad's image.

With the Shard your talking about very neutral / natural colours, with the glass reflecting blues and greys from the sky. Bright orange is none of these. I just find it a odd choice. I fear it may spoil the look of the building

I think ellipse should do his render of the Shard again, but this time with half the orange blinds down, just to see how it will look, and maybe sway my opinion.

Well I'm not bothered about the color tbh, but if you are worried, just take a look at the pic posted by LL above. With the way the glass reflects the sky the blinds should hardly be visible from the outside

Maybe your rite, but there’s only one way to find out. Hopefully they’ll start putting them in place this week or next.
