Is that thread still accessible somewhere? I'd love to check it out.

^ Indeed it was, along with arguably the happiest thread this forum ever had in the Olympic thread after London was announced at the host city.

yes i beg people to visit the Millenium bridge, it is the perfect angle to now be able to visualise the Shard. It really hit me, almost heart-stopping.

Particularly in this 2nd image we can see the floorplate is bigger on the south side, and smallest on the North (river facing) side. With the setback currently being worked on the core will set back on 3 SIDES - the exception being the side facing the river. It will then rise for another 15-20 stories or so before the next set-back.
And yes - I know the lines don't touch the side of the building - but because the photo was taken at a slight angle - i've "averaged" where the edge of the building is on both sides.
Personally I think the floorplates become ridiculously small for the flats on those floors 55-70? Hence why they can only squeeze in one large one per floor - and in fact, according to a floorplan posted on here. 2 floors is a duplex for ONE APARTMENT!
FYI - the angle of the walls is 6 degrees from the vertical.

It may seem like the floorplates will be tiny at that point, but they'll be a lot of room. It's only because the lower storey floorplates and the concrete core are so incredibly large that make the floorplates higher up tiny, but they're quite sizable really - for a hotel room or appartment at least.

I could see the top of the core peeking over the skyline from the Oval yesterday. By the time it's finished it will be very visible from inside that stadium. I couldn't work out quite how big it would look when finished, reckon somewhere on a par with Strata which is right next to Oval.

Hotel ones don't need to be that big of course so will be fine and they'll get quite a lot per floor.
Also I know it looks smaller - but I'd guess the apartment ones are going to only have 5-8 metres per side tops. If they were 10 metres+ then they'd have enough room to get more per floor. The highest apartment floor plate is pretty narrow (having seen the plans posted here). On one side of the core all they could squeeze in was a bathroom - making it look about 3-4 metres!
I think the designer has "slightly" gone for style over practicality.
I like the incline wall idea - but it's a bit too extreme near the top... and if anything the hotel floorplans need less space than the apartments... not the other way around.
But then again ... people will pay for high apartments... and to get a 360' view of London from a top floor would be f***** awesome. A small floorplate means a 2-3 bed apartment has a floor to itself.

Has anyone found any floorplans - I've only seen one office one and the apartment duplex one posted here

Regarding - the core... I thought I'd do some screengrabs of the 4D schedule somebody put on youtube. I don't know when it was created... but it appears they're running about 2 weeks behind schedule... see what you think...

Looks like the core should have grown to 3-4 floors past the setback. I think they're only starting the 2nd floor.

Concrete top out at circa 250 metres (and this makes it the highest in London, taller than Canary Wharf 1 thing) - BEFORE the end of the year... but add 2 weeks to that it seems...
