Great pictures SE9. Love seeing The Shard from afar. As soon as the core clearly passes the top of Guys it’s really going to dominate the skyline.

Would it create a skyline of: Guys, Shard, St Pauls, the Three Spires, South London Tower Blocks, the Barbican Estate and the City of London cluster; all in a single 'skyline'?

Actually, where would the Walkie-Talkie be placed in that shot?

Three Spires would be bang in front of The Shard from that angle.

FAQ: The red things on The Shard are the blind boxes. The blinds themselves are grey.

The Shard's observation deck opens in Feb 2013: http://the-shard.com/the-view-from-the-shard

Yes the top is finished and will remain open to the elements. The exterior is (pretty much) complete.

Somebody else with this nice camera
I have this one too! It really is an amazing zoom camera with great optics (no lens distortion, purple fringing with extreme light conditions). I'm getting a TZ7 today (hopefully). It's a pocket size version with a 12x zoom - amazing!
In Shard related news - I was in London on Sunday - took some TZ28 pics, emailed them to myself at work and they haven't arrived - was planning on uploading them during my lunch hour
I took some from London Bridge station (the open platforms grant an excellent viewpoint) and some from Battersea Park station (from the train! - i had a reasonably clean window).

I think they'll leave the formwork on until it's in the way of the steels (which will probably be in 8 weeks or so). It'll look quite nice with 2 black stripes on it
It might be safer to not dismantle it too early. I wouldn't want to be working underneath it when they dismantle it!

[QUOTE=chest;63198901]few from today with some close ups of the core box to try and work out what's happening - it looks like a separate box emerging from the original box leaving it behind- a bit like the little Alien mouth that comes out of the big Alien mouth

QUOTE]

For those wondering what's going on... I'm assuming that they're keeping the side of the form work that does not set back (the North, river-facing side) and just moving that up. But on the other 3 sides (that do set back) they've inserted new form work inside the old form work.
So one old piece of form work and 3 new pieces will rise up from here.
The above photo shows it pretty clearly.
It must be quite complicated adjusting it - and breaking it into staggered bits without causing the whole ****ing think to come crashing down on the people underneath! I'd hate to be the safety guy on this ensuring that doesn't happen! Some responsibility!
Anyway - glad to see it's started moving up again.

Mine from Sunday
Apologies for the enormous size - I shrunk them to 66% - but maybe I should have shrunk them to 50%!

This one's a bit HDR'd... but the cloudiness meant it didnt work that well!

From near Battersea Park train station (2 miles out from Waterloo, so about 4-5 miles away from the Shard)

From a platform at Charing Cross.

Great pictures guys. Googledpeakoil I love your second picture, it’s not my new background. I’m heading down at the weekend (MUSE live at Wembley Stadium ) so I’ll pop over and take some shots.

If I was to speculate, I would guess around a metre.

Mace, building the Shard one metre at a time.
