Absolutely awesome picture from Parliament hill.Really shows Shard's dominance already.
30/31 coming along nicely.Next set of floors will take the steel to 121 metres/400 feet So only another 617 feet of steel remaining.

cheers! the first set of images were using iPhone 4 and an app called Pro HDR (which has more dynamic range than the built in HDR mode that Apple provides).

the rest were with my Panasonic FZ-18 which i will very soon be upgrading to something better...

Fantastic Photo’s wawd. Anyone know what the object bottom left is?
I saw it being lifted from the lorry it came in on - it looked like one of those hydraulic arms used to suspended a window-cleaning platform.
I wonder if they will install it part way up the tower, or if they will move it up floor by floor as the tower grows (seems unlikely though)?

Not at all, with your addition, it just shows how awesome it's going to look when finished

Hopefully the next time I go to Hampstead it will be a clearer day!

The scaffolders have been dismantling some of the large frame slowly over the last couple of days.
Boards and poles craned up inside the smaller frame.
Photo from next monday 4th Oct!!!

FAQ: The red things on The Shard are the blind boxes. The blinds themselves are grey.

The Shard's observation deck opens in Feb 2013: http://the-shard.com/the-view-from-the-shard

Yes the top is finished and will remain open to the elements. The exterior is (pretty much) complete.

Crane Ties

Noticed today looking at the webcams (although tricky to see at low res) - it looks like as the cladding rises the lower crane ties are being removed. Check the one nearest the Guys webcam - looks like the red tie lower down is now half gone.

This seems... odd. I thought they had to be tied in at fixed (maximum) hieght intervals, not just once near the top.

Anyone know more ?

I was wondering the same, without the lower ties surely they could buckle?

Also, if there is only one tie (near the top) what will happen when they need to be taken down?

I am guessing that the tie has been taken down because the back pack is growing around the crane so they could tie it to that as it grows....??

what a horrible day.. low visibility not ideal for construction, and just that grey feeling everyone hates about London they seemed to have added a nice amount of glass panles though

Nice pics, and interesting about the HDR- can I ask what the HDR software does other than stitch (appears to be two) exposures together? I do understand the concept of HDR generation from multiple JPEGs, but in this case, what processing has been applied? It doesn't look tone mapped or any different. Cheers.
