You all must remember that this tower was meant to be just another 250 meter tall box that expanded the Midtown plateau further westward. The New York Times Building is nothing compared to the Mega-projects being developed right around the corner near Madison Square Garden. However, I must say that this scraper looks magnificent at night light up along with the planned gardan on the top.>>>

Unfortunately, those renders will not be accurate. The rods and the rest of the structure are not that light colored. These will be phony just like the renders that show the whole building.

It is fuuny to me how in NYC we take a 250 meter tall skyscraper for granted. In any other city on earth people would love to have 250 meter tall scraper be proposed, let alone built. New Yorkers just brush it off as just another building, and I even find myself personally critizinging the NY Times Building as not being aesthetically pleasng enough. Many of my friends barely even recognize that The Times was even constructed... !

While Carlos' pics are always appreciated and anticipated they don't do the building's height justice. Underneath this thing it looks way, way, wayyyy taller than the pics. Even from Central Park West I happened to glance the other day coming out of my Aunt's. I usually don't look up or look to long up and ahead of me. It's a monster looking at it from the north. right on eigth underneath it, on eigth around the 20's, and from the piers. It definetly isn't the best looking building being built right now but it looms and pictures anyone has taken really don't express that as much as pictures of other buildings.

The needle on top looks out of place. I think Piano should've kept the roof flat (meaning no needle). Great building otherwise though.

i remember reading something way back about the spire being able to sway in the wind, like a blade of grass or something. obviously they've dropped that part of the spire plan, but can anyone else remember reading this?

Some more interior shots found, but again there is nothing special about it.

I don't know why people poo-poo this building so much... I think its a great addition to the new york skyline.

... something different than the standard glass tower ...
