Västra Eriksberg is going to be developed for housing the coming years. Here is a nice movie clip about it. I like the 3D-model and the aerial views of it. You also see what the redeveloped waterfront looks like today. It's not really central so bear with the suburban look.

Capacity: 18.000
Scheduled inauguration: 2008

This new stadium will replace Gammla Ullevi, wich will be knocked down in a couple of weeks. The clubs that will use it are the alliance clubs IFK Göteborg, Gais and Örgryte. Imo they should go for 20.000+ insted of 18.000. But anyway its Alot better than their current, plus they can use Nya Ullevi for bigger games..

Here are some renders of the Mölndal Centrum project. It includes a 39 storey skyscraper that will mark the entrance to Göteborg from the south (even though Mölndal wants it to mark the center of their little town).

It's a mystery to me why they invest so much money and then only build it 18.000 capacity. Stockholm's new football stadium will be 50.000 and the new one in Malmö 27.000. And here only 18.000! That means we will be on pair with small towns like Borås, Växjö, Halmstad etc. Elfsborg, the club in Borås raised their average from 6.000 to 12.000 with the new stadium. In a town of 90.000. Göteborg metro is ten times bigger!

Nya Gamla Ullevi?

First you have Gamla Ullevi stadium.
Then you built Nya Ullevi Stadium.
Then your gonna build Nya Gamla Ullevi Stadium.
When it gets old it'll be called Gamla Nya Gamla Ullevi Stadium

At some point you need to just come up with a new name. For instance: Stadionen Som Hette Gamla Nya Gamla Ullevi Stadion -Stadion.

eh... because Nya ullevi already fills that niche? but you're right in that 18k should probably be more like 20-30k.

i agree that it should b bigger than 18k because nya ullevi isn't really great for football. instead they should make a 35k football stadium. and then ifk goteborg should buy it so they make the profits. if they want to win the uefa cup again they must up their 1-standerds 2- money that will improve standerds

Right now there are a lot of fans that are dissappointed by the plans for the new stadium. It's not visionary enough. And it's a pretty cheap stadium, only 180 million SEK. They built a second opera house here 12 years ago for more that twice as much money. And that money was probably well invested. A football stadium in Göteborg should be more that just another Borås Arena. I agree with them.

Here is an article from Göteborgs-Posten about the growth in Göteborg. Despite it's heading, it doesn't say much about how it's gonna happen. More commuting and densifying, ok. What's the news?

It seems like the Mölndal Tower has changed design. It's not circular anymore as in my drawing. I hope it will be approved soon!

Demolishion of Gamla Ullevi has started and they have presented a final image of what the new arena will look like. The roof design has changed some times but this is the way it will be. The tensile roof looked sexy but I don't think it's suitable in our climate and probably doesn't give the same good acoustic as a hard roof. It's still only 18.000 but ok, we'll have to accept that. I think in a few years IFK will have reached that figure most games.
