Telford

Ok here goes, this is my first thread and due to popular demand I've decided to make it about my home town, specialist subject on Mastermind and newest member of the Greater Birmingham family :- Telford.
This is the place to come if you like it, if you hate it or if you just wanna ask a question or make a comment, I'll try do do my best argue or justify it.
Now I don't have a digital camera right now so I apologise for the pictures but whatever.

Congratulations on creating this thread (not like it was difficult but congrats anyway). I have some friends who live on a VERY posh estate pretty much next to Telford so when I visit them, I'll be sure to get some pictures and also so tower block pics!

Also, Hickton Madeley architects, the architects of the Birmingham Pinnacle, produced a very impressive masterplan for Telford. Shame it was just a vision.

Telford has a very special place in my heart, since I spent my honey moon in Much Wenlock, and the day after our wedding around Telford.

Oh Telford, so much to answer for!

Telford does need its own thread, but there would be only about 3 or 4 forumers who would regularly visit it. Telford is half way between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton, so is it possible to share a thread?

That's the Ironbridge power station. Such an artistic contrast to that bridge thang just up the river.

However, they do look nicer than most cooling towers being in the red sandstone.

And well done Telfordboy on your first thread! Whatever people's thoughts on Telford are, they should provide a good discussion.

I have mixed feelings towards the town - it's in a niceish setting and is well spaced but samey and uninspiring. However, for some reason I just LOVE driving through on the M54 seeing its lickle skyscrapers and general urban sprawl (what you can see of it).

I have a question for you if I may Telfordboy! Do you know where the best place is on the Wrekin to go for views and just general niceness?? I've only driven over there once but it just seemed like trees and no view. I'm sure there must be something worth visiting there.

I remember going up there and there was a little arch which you could climb through. I think it's known as the needles eye? That's pretty cool.

You don't really geat a great view until you reach the mast tbh but thats quite cool as you're just walking along through the forest and then bam you can see everything.
The needles eye is pretty cool it looks as if its balanced very precariously on the edge, you have to have big cojones to walk it.

Sounds interesting! Do you know if that area is accessible from the M54? I just remember getting completely lost having come through Oakengates on what was the old A5 Watling Street.

I was born in Oakengates and haven't really been back since I was a kid. I do go to my mates quite a lot in Leegomery though, and we go up Wellington to the Park pub from time to time. Nice thread. Oh yeah, Thr Wrekin has amazing views all round.

I realised why Hickton Madeley architects are so heavily involved in Telford projects - they are based in Telford.

Telford should create a glass block centre because being a new town it shouldn't have to worry about buildings blending in with the "old". Most of the old parts are away from the centre.
