They chose the city because of tradition, the fact that a lot of hedge funds are in the west end so the city is a good compromise and the fact that a lot of the important workers live in South Kensington/Chelsea/Wimbledon (generally SW London) and didn't want to have to commute to Canary Wharf which is significantly further away. When it means getting up at 530 vs 500 in the morn it makes a big difference, I am pretty happy about it as I am getting a flat in South Lon hopefully next year, looking at Southwark and Bermondsey, so fits in nicely. I personally think it would have been worthwhile especially to work in such great new towers, have the JPMorgan logo light the CW skyline plus have room for expansion of those trading floors I will be on...bloody cramped as is! Will also be good to consolidate their offices, they have several across London, where i will start is 10 Aldermanbury street which is not a great office - bland midrise. |

opposite the guildhall is it? Don't mind that building, just off Cheapside and near St Pauls. Along with Schroders and Dresdner and Fortis now in the old Royex House site next to London Wall, there's a nice mix of lowrise modern buildings IMO.

It has grown on me quite a bit when visiting in person, the steel(?) cladding works wonders as does the very slight curve at the top.

I like it, it reminds me of a more modern Embarcadero Center in San Francisco which was loosely based on the Rockerfeller Center and constructed in the very early 1970's.

That building illustrates exactly why I prefer Glass to stone for tall buildings. RS will look lighter and less oppresive on the skyline. The sky, clouds and other builings being reflected on it's surface will bring it to life, in a way that would never be possible if were clad in stone.

What amazed me was that after the quake of 89, the whole building and others had lifted out of the ground by about a foot, including the Hyatt Regency!...I was so shocked! Still, I am glad they survived...being over critical about them is like saying a Gothic cathedral is too dark;...they are cutting edge for their time, construction methods and cost wise inclusive...period. Thats history eh!

I understand that the signalling system which was outdated when installed on the Jubilee is being replaced which will allow for trains every minute or so within the next couple of years. At the mo, even at rush hour it seems like every 3-4 mins which is just not enough. I know , the days i dont cycle to work i end up getting it into the West End from London Bridge - its a pain. With all the new people down at the Wharf there they need Crossrail urgently, they also need the third carriage on the DLR , a new Thames Crossing at Rothehithe and the upgraded East London line yesterday! |

Very odd - I get the Jubilee line every single day from Canary wharf to Green Park and in peak time it IS every 2 minutes going west - surely that means it must be every 2 minutes going east? I think your friends are just wingeing - I'd say I have to wait more than 2 minutes maybe once a fortnight? |

Well yes, but it's only U/C up to ground level - above that it's still just at App.

The foundations will be amazing engineering too, these are massive buildings. Look where these towers are being built - right next to the river! There will have to be caissons and slurry walls to stop water breaking through while the deep foundations are laid.

Does that mean the height may change?
