Unless there is a really dramatic difference in how high each building is above sea level, the smaller Riverside South tower should be smaller than 8 Canada Square - the smaller RS tower is 189m, 8CS is 200m.

Great diagram.

But surely the heights are inaccurate, it should be fixed.

  • The berm against the Northern wall is being excavated in a very painstaking way - the earth is moved to a little tipper on the North Tower basement slab, which then moves it to the Southern side of the slab and drops it off the end. This is then moved by digger to the base of the old ramp where it is lifted by two more diggers into the waiting trucks. Fortuantely the Northern berm is quite small, because this is going to take ages.

Comparing the size of the site of RS with the Shard and Heron Tower construction sites it is hard to comphrehend how massive this complex will be. Indeed scarily big - when it rises i don't think londoners will know what has hit them!

Don't forget this one is going to have 3 buildings, two of them are skyscrapers. So it really needs this big site.

Still going to make a massive impact. The taller building has a higher roof height than Heron Tower after all!

Londoners aren't going to know where to look when this and the Shard are battling for control of the skies one the tallest of the country and the other one of (if not the) biggest office building to date?!

Today in the FT:

JP Morgan Chase is launching a new global corporate banking unit, pitting the US bank against Citigroup an HSBC. Initial focus is on fast-growing economies (China, India, Brazil) and UK, Germany, and Switzerland. The new business will be based in London. JP Morgan would invest more than $100m and hire hundreds of bankers. The move is also aimed at reducing reliance on the slow-growing US economy.

Excellent updates by Clayduck.

Another basement segment being poured today. I think that the Southern section might also be poured tomorrow (the concrete pumps on the Southern end of the site looked ready for action when I walked past the site on my way home). The site was an absolute hotbed of activity today - I'd never seen so many people on site at once!
