Lol? Did not expect this. Even some Londoners had no clue! Great news though.

Lol..it's not under construction.

JP Morgan are simply completing works on the basements as per their long standing contractual agreement with Canary Wharf Group.

Once completed they have until 2016 to decide whether or not to proceed with full construction or sell the site.

..anybody who thinks the towers will start to rise later this year once these basement works have finished, are going to be very disappointed.

As of right now, JPM simply have no need for this much office space.

Sounds logical given the current market. Seemed to good to be true anyway.

not iconic skyscrapers but at least they would be good additions for the canary wharf.

Not everything needs to be iconic. These would fit in seamlessly in London. Great designs.

Yeah, while not being fantastic by themselves, I think they'll help boost the image of Canary Wharf and add nicely to the skyline.

This development is beautifully understated. London's skyline can't be too experimental like those in Dubai, Doha etc. If every building is screaming 'Look at me!' it will only be a big mess -- case in point: Shanghai.

These will be built, they wouldn't do all this work for these massive towers without building them, there will be bananas on this thread when the cores start rising next year, the core holes for this look huge, these will be epic

One would think and hope so. But then we take a look at the Pinnacle...

The pinnacle reminds us that sometimes even a rising core doesn't guarantee anything. I just hope that the new pinnacle redesign won't be too different, we don't want to cheapen it down to much and end up with a compromise mess like tour first in paris

Exactly. It's such a pity though: I liked the old design so much! It was exactly what London needed, and it would have been one of my favourite skyscrapers in London and even the world. Ah well. We can only hope for the best.
Anyway, back on topic...
I do hope these are built soon, Canary Wharf really needs some more towers to increase its density.

There seems to be a divided opinion as to whether it is truly under construction...

It is certain that a basement is being built - but whether they will continue is uncertain. I believe it is down to JP Morgan. This is because JP Morgan are contracted to atleast build a basement (so they HAVE to build a basement). Whether they will continue building the towers is different. The plot/designs/plans might be bought by another company, bank or maybe insurer. Only time can tell...

Lets hope sooner rather than later
