basically, people are being forced out of their homes but are receiving compensation, but some people just wont leave..a meeting was held to let people voice their concerns..they're just delaying the inevitable..

i saw it on the news tonight and the residents are mostly old farts who dont know what's going on

Same story again? I mean, greedy residents willing to bribe the developers asking for astronomical amounts of money is becoming a "tradition" there.

So basically you are saying that being forced out of the place you have lived in for decades in exchange for some meagre compensation is a great thing, and you'd cheer in blissful happiness if it happened to you.

Well, you're a strange person. I never understood masochists...

I completely agree with you. I never understood how people could post messages like, "I sure hope they demolish those ugly houses," without realizing just how evil their statement is. People own and live in those houses, and compensating them with 1/10th the value of their home is hardly enough. That's why I cheer for these people who fight it and get more money. It's THEIR property, not the construction company's and not the government's. It's an unfortunate practice that happens in America as well, called eminent domain. New York Times used it to get their ugly skyscraper built in New York. They demolished an entire block of small businesses. Yes, they were compensated, but who knows what other losses they were forced to endure. Just moving location can be detrimental to a business. And besides, I thought this country was all about the so-called "little guy." Now a huge, bloated corporation like NY Times is allowed to crush the "little guy?" What a wonderful story.

And somebody said that the news portrayed these stalwart residents as "oblivious old farts." I don't even believe the news in America, so why on Earth would I believe the news in China?

Have you been to rural areas in fujian . It has become a business for rural guys to not work and play board games and wait for authorities to come form acquisitions for highways and other constructions and then charging obscene amounts of cash .Since Chiense govt is like crazily hell bent on not letting any escalation of voilence they usually succumb to demands of these scumbags .It has become disgusting .They end up holding very important projects for their financial gains

What a stupid statement... they are not greedy, they are just clever. And if they are greedy, well itīs ok, or only the developers and the local government have the right to be greedy?

On the other hand it is a good thing; China is trying to boost the consumption power of her citizens in order to balance the economic development, and that kind of big compensations offers a small help to achieve this objective

That's exactly how I feel. The design of the tower is quite striking and original but the antenna has no style and the different sections of it give it a patched together appearance. Still, when all of the construction is completed around the base of the tower the overall appearance is going to be very impressive.
