Hi Sock.
I don't think they removed anything. As I posted yest. - I think they lowered section 4 inside section 3 for some reason. I'm sure they will jack it back up soon - maybe higher than it was ... ?

I kinda doubt it but in this lowered state, now would be the time to add more.

I agree with Fury, the only two reasons for this would either be addition of height or installment of the gravity ride.
Both are a little unlikely (especially the latter, seeing as the idea was supposed to be scrapped), but let's wait and see how it fares out.
This will definitely be interesting.

Looks considerably more elegant than I thought it would. Good for Guangzhou, truly one of the best world skylines!

How tall is the spire itself? If they add 20m to it, will affect the aerodynamics?
Maybe Tokyo tower will add some more height, if Guangzhou tower adds some more.

after studying photos of when it was 610m tall.
section3 was 32m high, now 24m? loss of 8m.
section4 was 25m high, now 10m loss of 15m.
total=23m lower?

Hi all.

Hi Cul.

Looks good.
I thought only section 4 was shorter as they probably lowered it inside 3. I guess looking at it now 3 is shorter which is possible now that 4 isn't resting on it right now.

I can't see they lowered because there was a structural problem. There has to be another reason. I am convinced (perhaps hopefull is a better word) they will jack it back up to at least where it was.

The notion of trying to better the Tokyo ST is an inriguing one. The Sky Tree could get the last laugh in the end. A good old fashioned height competition would be cool IMO.

And that's only the beginning, there are quite a few projects yet to come. The Pinnacle topping out in a couple of months will make a nice addition, and then there's the East Tower of the Guangzhou IFC above it all, which will just be perfect.

And maybe at some point in the future Guangzhou will get a 600+ project like Shanghai and Shenzhen...
