Nobody said that the height reduction has a negative aesthetic impact. It's just as beautiful now as it was before, nobody was saying otherwise, or even hinting at believing otherwise. The height discussion has nothing to do with people's appreciation of the design, those are two entirely unrelated subjects, so I don't get why you want to try to make a connection there.

The height discussion, as you can see if you read through it more thoroughly, is entirely focused on the seeming stupidity of doing an expensive height reduction of a structure that already had its original height approved prior to construction, spending a sizeable amount of money for a ridiculously small reduction. Nobody is saying anything along the lines of "oh no, this totally ruins this tower" or anything of the sort that you seem to be assuming. We're talking about the expensive of over a million bucks to reduce the height of a structure that already had 610 meters approved, and was already built it 610 meters, shortening it by what seems a trivial, insignificant amount of ten measly meters. It's stupid, profuse, uneconomical.

That's my opinion, at least.

I don't like the blue painted "sky-like" roof. It's pure kitsch in my eyes and somehow ridiculous on such a great tower.

Can't completely decide If I like this tower, it's certainly interesting... I suppose it makes sense in China, although I'm sure I wouldn't like it anywhere near where I live.

One thing I am certain on though is that the structure and construction process were completely ingenious. There is a great video here

would there be any risk to other tall builds in china to have a height issue like this one , such as shanghia tower ?

Shanghai Tower: I doubt it. However, I could see Ping'An being forced to lower/remove their spire since some of the earlier renders did not have it.

There is another video that shows how the tower changes color really quickly in the night. NOW THAT'S AMAZING. Although having a light-show like that next to my house would drive me nuts. So I must agree with Rory on this one.

(thanks for showing OB, I've found it really useful)

hi fury/
after studying recent photos and older ones.
ive worked out the 4th segment didnt come down 10m. it was 3rd AND 4th.
both down 5m, so 10m in total.
the 3rd segment is now 25m (was 30m) and 4th segment 20m (was 25m)
you can tell the 4th segment wasnt lowered 10m by itself because that would mean it is now 15m high which is same height as the 2nd segment which you can see in this photo looks squat in comparison to 4th segment?

my diagram shows what i mean.what you think?
