both down 5m, so 10m in total.
the 3rd segment is now 25m (was 30m) and 4th segment 20m (was 25m)
you can tell the 4th segment wasnt lowered 10m by itself because that would mean it is now 15m high which is same height as the 2nd segment which you can see in this photo looks squat in comparison to 4th segment?

my diagram shows what i mean.what you think?
Hi Cul.

What do I think ...
I think you are the man when it comes to these drawings.
Looks bang on with the structure. good work.

Thinking about this whole lowering thing - it would be interesting to get the lowdown on the actual proceedure. I would think the jacking equipment had already been removed but furthermore the 4th section and all the red/white sections above were jacked into position and the first 3 sections were built with the crane. (my take on it - correct me if I'm wrong) So to lower both the 3rd and 4th would have required a new approach compared to the original jacking proceedure.

The structural engineering required to make that cake must have been more complicated than that for the tower itself.

Reports three weeks ago said it was aimed to open on Oct. 1st--the National Day.

August 10th

The Guangzhou TV & Sightseeing Tower shall finally open to the public over the national day holidays. Guangzhou Party Secretary, Mr. Zhang Guangning announced this recently during an inspection to the tower.

The TV Tower shall probably open on October 1st, the first day of the national day golden week holidays. Construction teams and decorators have therefor only 45 days left to get everything ready for the grand opening.

The Guangzhou TV Tower will host a variety services including an amusement center, an open-air teahouse, a revolving restaurant and of course sightseeing decks on the top platform. Finally, an unusual Ferris wheel circumventing the platform will offer tourists a 20-minute panoramic tour of the city.

Entrance fees still haven't been announced. According to previous reports, access to the tower shall cost at least 100 RMB and additional activities will push the price up to between 160 and 200 RMB.

come on, you are comparing a TV tower designed 20 years ago to a newly built one, of course this one is more futuristic. Pearl tower is certainly not old fashioned--could you show me another tower of the same style? Some people may think it is ugly, but many more people like it. It has successfully become the icon of Shanghai, and that is not a tragedy. I personally like the oriental pearl tower very much. I like GZ TV tower too, for its uniqueness and harmonious integration with the skyline.
