In the photo, there're two looping things right above the top of external ribbing, definately not crane or concrete tube, what is that?
They are Concrete tubes. Amazing PIC!

Definately base of the crane, you can see the crane arm coming from it.

EDIT: oh, I see, from the top of the external ribbing, it is more ribbing. The top may have a different design, I don't know.

Hi all.

Such a unique tower. Bar none the best looking tower in the world.

I must say update coverage has been pretty good right from the start - hats off to the guys who post pics.

Great tower, but we're really not sure of this supposed 618m height, it seems a crazy rumor to me.........I think we should stick with 610m at this stage.

Guangzhou's TV tower is 618m while Tokyo TV tower is only 610m, which one is taller?

The tower is designed to withstand an 8-magnitude earthquake and a 12-magnitude hurricane and is expected to be in service for at least one hundred years. (Is this true?) and what category of hurricane (or a typhoon) would 12 magnitude hurricane be?

A magnitude 12 tropical cyclone is anything between 64-120+ knots (Or, in understandable units, 119-222+ km/h).

If they're talking about a magnitude 8 earthquake on the Richter scale, it's approximately that what hit China earlier this year or the one that hit San Francisco in 1906.

Let's put it this way, both cases aren't pretty.

no official records have shown the height is 618m, it should be 610m

I miss those dreamy high-altitude clouds like on the first photo, which we never get in England, but it looks like the top of the external ribbing is nearly done, and soon the new tubes will be fitted on top.

Surely this tower is the strongest structure out of all the narrow towers around the world (what is the name for likes of this one, CN tower, Pagcor tower, Space needle and etc...?)
