Saint Sernin, Toulouse, France.

This is the largest remaining Romanesque church in the world.

the sultan ahmed is probably a tidier building, and it's certainly spectacular both inside and out, but it is just a copy (all be it a revolutionary and beautiful one!).

the thing that really amazes me about istanbul's (and the former ottoman empire's in general) mosques... is that virtually all of them contain a level of influence from the hagia sophia... but they have all interpreted it's basic concepts within the framework of the time they were built.

dolmabahçe mosque for example is a distinctly victorian take on the orthodox christian inspired mosque, but still contain the essential elements taken from the original 5th and 6th century greek buildings.
Pre-Islamic and Islamic Persian architecture influenced world architecture to a greater degree (for example, the Gothic Arch is actually a Persian Arch). Followed by Byzantine architecture. But not Hagia Sophia specifically.

The Kaiserdom zu Speyer is actually the tallest romanesque structure remaining after the destruction of Cluny.

For me It's got to be the Sagrada Familia, just for the sheer ambitiousness of the design. Hey, has anyone seen that rendering of the completed building? It's absolutely massive.

Actually, I'll find a link...
http://www.openbuildings.com/buildin...file-1846.html
This site has loads of photos, the rendering is in there too

Pretty disappointed the completion date they have is 2026, I was expecting it by 2020!!
