rising quite fast now

i hope to see more buildings in the future that address more functional issues instead of purely aesthetics.

Really like this tower. Rising very fast. Can't wait to see it finished.

lol when they say that other buildings in China are highly energy inefficient. Aren't they like any other buildings built in the world?

BBC just has this attitude. When they report anything in China, they can't help adding some negative comments of their own. Some are far from the facts and not logical at all, and some are just irrelevant to the subject. It is very skilled in embedding those negative comments in the context, and it is a very narrow minded media in general.

I think what they're trying to highlight is that people shouldn't get excited about China turning a green leaf - excuse the expression lol - that its a step in the right direction but overall China has a lot more to do! The BBC tends to reflect the general British publics attitude, which in most cases with China is that alot of reform is needed but development is good news, not a case of China Bashing! As for the BBC being narrow minded, well i dont need to argue this point as its know to be one of the, if not the largest news corporation in the world and is often voted the best by both the British and foreigners! Sorry to get off the topic but felt the need to defend lol!

As for the tower, ive loved this design since i saw it, and its a brilliant development for Guangzhou!

I dont see how quotes like these are true/ necessary
"Rising high through the polluted air of Guangzhou City" -- I havent seen any polluted sky in this thread.

"And a Western businesswoman I bumped into told me her firm couldn't persuade Chinese clients to invest in more energy-efficient vehicles even if she could prove that they would start paying back their owners in energy costs is just 10 months. " -- what does this have to do with the building

And the video: All buildings around the world are just as inefficient

The video is taken on a foggy morning, and IDK if this is coincidence but they show all surroundings EXCEPT the beuatiful West Tower, only the ugly residentials.

Even in an article that is suposed to give boost to china's image, they manage to make it bash china :S

It is so easy to say that China is polluted and persuade people to believe that. It is also easy to say that China uses inefficient buildings and persuade people to believe it as well!!!!
China has done a lot in terms of clearing up the environment and it will continue to. Having said that, I'm almost certain that the media will not give them much credit though... because its China.
China's large population will certainly lead to more pollution, as people move out of poverty, they will consume more and this will lead to more pollution, in order to achieve a GDP which satisfies the media and the rest of the world, they will need a greater economy, which leads to more pollution. But if you take the amount of pollution released per person, then they are quite moderate. lol, then people will say that they have low GDP and the argument continues...........

If BBC is a world class news corporation, it should focus more on equaltiy and educating the public about things happening around the world, rather than pleasing the 'public's attitude'

Anyway, hopefully this thread can return back to its topic and that video and article be posted and discussed in '
Post here the most ridiculous lies about China you find in the Western media' threat lol
