Looking good! Am I crazy, or is construction on this line flying along?

Separate but related -- can someone clarify for me whether the Aviation/96th station is happening or not? I know it got approved last year, but I haven't seen it listed on any Metro materials. Is the idea to do it as an infill station after the rest of the project is done? My understand was that it's sort of essential to have a direct connection to the people mover...

Better not delay the Crenshaw Line: there may be a Super Bowl in Inglewood in 2020!

Of course, the Inglewood site hasn't been selected yet, but it could be selected, built and and operating for a year by the time the Crenshaw Line is done.

Well I have answered my own question, via this Metro Source article with updates on construction:

Quote:
Another station at Aviation and 96th will be built later to serve as a transfer point to the automated people mover to be constructed by LAX. The people mover will run between the airport terminals, the Crenshaw/LAX Line and a consolidated rental car center that is planned
I guess my further questions would be 1) how long after the line opens can we expect the infill station at 96th, and 2) if the People Mover opens before the infill station, how the heck are people supposed to get there from the Crenshaw Line?

I imagine the same number of people will take the Metro rail to the Inglewood Super Bowl as the number of people that took the Metro rail to the 1984 Olympics.

This is a fallacy, there weren't any Metro Rail lines open in 1984.

...that's his point.

So are they turning the Forum into a football stadium?

(I lived near Centinela Park in Inglewood as a teenager)

Don't be rude. It's likely that quite a few people will use mass transit to get to the Super Bowl.

I just hope the organizers are realistic and don't screw up the Mass Transit Super Bowl like NJ did.

... how am *I* being rude? I didn't say it!

I for one an pretty excited to (finally) see a rail line along the same railroad tracks I used to walk along as a boy to get to school. See, I was 12 when the Blue Line opened, and the then mayor of Inglewood publicly called out the SCRTD (predecessor to today's LACMTA) for not thinking of a line from Central LA to LAX then, knowing it would have to follow that same alignment. The thinking at the time was to branch off the blue line at Slauson, follow the railline from there to about where Florence and LaBrea cross, then go through central Inglewood on Market street then follow Hawthorne Bl to Century and on to LAX.

If I can find some of these old maps from the LA Times or something, I'll post it here.
