I took pictures today... I have driven over 1400 kilometers for work in the past 14 workdays.

1. Roundabout on the N309/N310 intersection in Elburg. Pretty standard you would say...

2. But if we take a closer look on the signs... The first one says Zwolle 24km.

3. But on the second, it's 3 kilometers shorter! I wonder how many times they driven the roundabout before the distance to Zwolle was defined

4. Entering the A28 motorway at junction Zwolle-Noord. Pretty quiet traffic, but it was around 1.30 pm.

5. The "pride" of Zwolle: IJsseltower 96m

6. No recession here, another three similar towers are under construction.

7. The bridge with the green fences is a new viaduct of the Hanzeline railway under construction.

8. They exaggerated a bit with the light poles here on the road from Beach Horst to Harderwijk.

9. Live in a 16th century.. ehm... 21st century castle!

10. This is a relatively new road. It's not seen very often that a two-lane highway is divided outside city limits...

11. Welcome in Znojmo, CZ!

12. Two-lane roundabout. These are pretty rare in the Netherlands, they prefer a "turboroundabout" with the lanes divided.

13. Faded A28 sign on the Harderwijk junction.

Hope you enjoyed this off the beaten path journey. ( I could as well just have taken the A28).

I love 'm. Finally no more reason to be scared every time a truck comes at you from the other direction (I've been in car crashes involving a truck twice now, I hate them).

On the flip side, if you get stuck behind a slow driver, there's no way around them.

The number of roads where overtaking is allowed in NL is increasingly low anyway...

They might have thought it was a good solution to make it impossible for drivers to overtake. Well, they succeeded doing that

N470 Zoetermeer - Delft, N57 Rozenburg - Hellevoetsluis, N215 Stellendam - Middelharnis, just to name some examples. It's becoming a more and more popular road design, unfortunately...

Rat running has always been a problem in Abcoude. In order to prevent that a road block was installed, which did work in the beginning. Only 57 cars collided with that damn thing in it's 15 months of operation. After that, some frustated guy blew the control unit up with some heavy fireworks. Recently, the municipality received 50 thousand euros to repare it. Last monday it was put into operation again. 1h15 after it started up a car collided with it and the same evening someone set fire to the control unit, which was supposed to be 'hufterproof' (bastardproof). It seems like we're starting all over again

Veilingroute between the A4 and FloraHolland Naaldwijk has the same road design. I kinda like it...

Do you have any pics of how this road block looks like?

Like this:

Though this is not in Abcoude, it somehow shows how it looks like. The idea is that every x seconds a car can pass. The problem is that after the traffic light turned red again, the roadblock stays down for a few seconds, making some drivers think that they can still pass. When they drive over it, it comes up and they're in trouble - insurance companies don't pay for accidents like this, I heard.

Good news: on the A2 near Maarssen northbound traffic has moved back to the 'old' carriageway partly, meaning that it has been repaved
