AFAIK it is 2x2 soutbound (old tunnel), 2 reversible and 4 northbound (both new tunnel).

I think there are three permanent northbound lanes. At least it looks like that in the 3d animations.

That's right, probably 3 lanes, 5 in rush hours.

Anyway, I also made a video of the roadworks on the A1 yesterday (Oldenzaal - Buren interchange). The weather sucked bigtime and I didn't have anything to put the camera on, so I had to hold it, which of course doesn't really work. However, I really wanted to make a video of this section, so there we go:

Yeah, but with emergency lane, so the tube is prepared on 4 lanes.

After the completion of the 3rd and 4th roadtube, the Coentunnel will have 3 permanent lanes in each direction, and a 2 lane tidal flow.
Two tubes will have an emergencylane, which in the future can be used as extra capacity. In the further future 4-2-4 can be created without building a new tunnel tube.

It's quite difficult to shut down part of the A5 because it's only a few km long without any exits (and it doesn't even run all the way to Amsterdam yet). Do you mean A4?

^Nope. They where talking about shutting down the lanes towards Amsterdam all the way from the point where it connects with the A9.

Hang on, from the connection with the A9? That's direction The Hague/Rotterdam, just look over here. If they mean from the A4 to the A9 they could be right, but the A5 from the connection with the A9 to Amsterdam hasn't been built yet

Could be the connector from the A5 to the A9-east.

A quite unique thing to the Netherlands is the very clear and strong division between motorways (A-roads) and non-motorways (N-roads). This has resulted in very few expressways which you see in most other countries. The A-roads all suffer from a lack of capacity, while the N-roads are not designed to high capacity standards. Hence, most traffic, even short distance, utilizes the motorways. Paris for instance, has like a dozen of expressways complementing the Autoroute network. Other major cities have this too. The Randstad or Delta Metropolis lacks this.

Not really. They're working for god knows how long on a simple two-lane bypass of Valkenswaard (just south of Eindhoven, N69)

After 37 years of discussion and planning, there is finally going to be a new bridge in Abcoude (construction starting next week)

The area does have some natural value, most importantly because it's one of the last rural areas between Rotterdam and The Hague. Nonetheless, the area is not that interesting, similar landscapes can be found throughout much of North and South Holland.

It kinda has become an epic battle between environmental clubs, the Schiedam municipality and the government. The war of A4 seems to be coming to an end though, although this has been said before.
