Will it be 2×2? That would complete the typical Dutch way of building motorways

Temporary one. Meaning you can drive only on the right side of it.

Yeah, the 2×5 is not yet finished for the entire length of the section, so if this small bit of 2×5 would already be opened, a huge bottleneck would be created.

2+3, what's the use of that? Why not make it 2×3 immediately? I guess that this is Dutch politics again

(Dit nummer uit 1976 heb ik als mp3 op 320 kbps)

The song however was about the old E35 Amsterdam - Hoevelaken - Zwolle - Groningen - Germany. I always wondered what Oudenrijn did in this song.

I've read the whole thread! Boncus i know but i was interested. Holland looks like it has some great roads. Some superb road surface. And the architecture in some pictures were very nice! Any pictures of motorways of Rotterdam?

Around 11 am this morning, transportation minister Camiel Eurlings will give the official start of the construction of the second Coen Tunnel in Amsterdam. This will double the total capacity and even triple rushhour capacity (2 to 6 lanes) because of tidal lanes.

I don't know why you folks on here bitch so much about the Dutch highway system- it is extensive and the pavement quality is top notch. Plus, there are several major expansion projects going on. Who cares if the A-4 extension is 2X2? And what is so bad about trying to preserve green space in a very crowded country where there is very little of it?

Over here people some people would very much want that every square meter of green space should become a national park, and unfortunately politicians keep listening to these people

Furthermore, people complain that new roads damage the Dutch "nature", but when new houses are built you don't hear them, while that also damages the "nature"

The trouble is that we live in an extremely densely populated country and as a result, the green movements have grown increasingly radical. Every. Single. Project is being thwarted by these idiots. They've been known (and proven) to release a bunch of rare hamsters into fields to stop the expansion of a city (which inflates house prices in the whole region and cripples the economy).

There's nothing wrong with reserving some nature, but in this country the argument is one of 2 extremes. Nobody's taking the middle road anymore, which is rather sad.

You've got to appreciate the fact that the planned network of roadways, as conceived in the 1960's, was never completed. The Western part of the country has seen rapid development eversince while the motorway network is still very much in it's 1970's state. The road projects that are underway or in planning right now have been urgently needed since 30 years ago so we're only talking about stopgap measures. Now the green argument in an admittedly very dense country is legitimate but why have governments continued expanding housing and commercial into greenfield areas while letting transport lag behind?
