nu.nl says that because of roadworks last night some mud got onto the road surface, they don't say anything about a leak.

As usual, the media doesn't know squat about roads.

Roadworks were in place yes, but the mud problem has been around for a while now, last week the Coen Tunnel also had lane closures because of mud.

Radio 538 was even talking about a truck that lost the mud.

thanks for the info> I take your word on it, i guess its the leaking caused by the construction of the 2nd coentunnel.

Mystery surrounds the "accident". An Israeli guy was pumping gas at the station when a guy from Utrecht crashed into him at full speed. Speculation already speak of an attack.

On the news they said that it was an accident, but they probably say that to avoid speculation and rumours....

How can it be an attack , how would know the guy pumping Gas was Israeli?

There aren't many Israeli's in the Netherlands. The chances that an Israeli becomes not only accidentaly involved in this kind of violent accident, but also the prime point of this accident are remote, so I understand the speculation about an attack.

The widening of A4 near Leiden started today officially. There have been some tree-cutting before.

The A4 looks like this now:

And it's needed. It's ridiculous that the motorway between Amsterdam and Rotterdam (and a little bit The Hague, but there is also the A44 to get to The Hague) is still 2×2

hello people,

Im a new forum member, so i just wanted to introduce myself. I've been following several forums for quite some time now. Mainly forums in the Netherlands and eastern europe, the new member states. All about the higways off course witch is my main interest. I like skyscrapercity a lot because its my main source of news about new highways and change of highways. Highway networks have always been a interest of mine.

Myself, i've almost finished my study at the technical university of delft, the netherlands, so im almost a civil engineer specialised in concrete and steel structures. Besides that i hope i can be an addition to the club of people who i've read so much about until now. I hope i can share news with you about everything that is happening!

In addition to this i have got a question. I did search a lot on the internet about the start of the reconstruction on the a4. What's not completely clear to me is if there is a reservation for more lanes than 3x3, since that reservation exists on the other new parts of the a4. Does anybody know???

Also; Congratulations the Netherlands on the first project of the 'spoedwet projecten' of camiel eurlings, our minister of infrastructure! I hope a lot will follow, so that the standard congesition on our higways reduces a lot.

Howdy!

About A4, the new HSL tunnel has reservation for 10 lanes (6 currently in use). I'm not sure about the current Leiderdorp and Ringvaart Aqueduct widenings, they should have a reserve space for 10 lanes too, in my opinion. (Ringvaart Aqueduct could do with 8 lanes, as long as the shoulder is wide enough to accomodate an extra lane).

However, I don't think the Midden-Delfland section of A4 will have any space reservations, due to the highly sensitive nature of this project. Can you imagine, the idea of reserving space to solve future traffic problems!

yes, chriszwolle, you are absolutely right. there are a lot of space reservations on the northern part of the a4. i believe the reservation on the a4 midden delfland is minime, but also there is the a13 supporting the a4 on that part. i hope they made the right desicion on the a4 leiderdorp though!
Besides that i am a fan of you sharp observations on the higway networks on several threads, chriszwolle. Still i don't want to put too many feathers in your ass! (dutch expression)

I happend to make a video of A4 last saturday between Leiden and Amsterdam.

Included in the video are both the biggest bottleneck (ringvaart aqueduct), and the longest 2x5 section in the Netherlands (until the A2 will be opened).

watch on Youtube in HD or below:

nice video, chriszwolle. i know this section very well since ive worked on the n201, on the new aquaduct, 2x2 around aalsmeer. (signed on one of the exits on the video) i drove it every day. Still i think the biggest bottleneck is the 2x2 leiderdorp (my experience). the new a2 will absolutely gain the head price on being the widest highway section in one piece in the netherlands. can't wait!

Yeah, that's Zoeterwoude-Rijndijk. Some bloody small village that everyone knows from the traffic information

The exit names on A4 are wrong there anyway. They should've been named after Leiden, which is a far bigger city.

Though it is made up out of a combination of two highways (A15+A16) the highway section near Ridderkerk is by far the widest in the Netherlands. As a single highway the A2 will grab that title in the Netherlands.

The A2 will be the longest continuous 2×5 motorway stretch in the Netherlands, from Abcoude to Maarssen. From Maarssen to Utrecht it will be 2+3+3+2 and from Abcoude to Holendrecht it will be 2×6 (which is barely a kilometer).
