There is absolutely no need for a motorway near Kinderdijk, let alone an elevated one.

They will extend A38 towards Krimpen aan den IJssel (N210).

I hope so, but I doubt it, by the time something might happen we'll be 20 years further, and by then too many kids may have been brainwashed that we don't need any new roads...

130 km/h trials

Starting tomorrow, two more motorways will receive a 130 km/h limit.

These are;

* A2 Everdingen - Deil: 15 km - 2x4 lanes
* A16 Moerdijk - Breda: 20 km - 2x3 lanes

The 130 km/h limit will be outside rush hours.

Are there any data or models availible showing the possible influence of raising the speed limit?

I've recently read a study by a Swedish scientist stating that increasing the speed limit by 10 km/h increases accidents by 20%.

I suggest, if you don't mind Chris, we create a road safety thread here so that we can gather all data there.

These trials are executed just to find out if the 130 km/h limit has any significant effects on traffic safety.

I was driving this weekend on Afsluitdijk and A7 in Noord Holand and I could say first time it was a pleasure to drive on motorway here in NL
Maybe because my car is really quite and good driven on speed 130-150 km/h. Anyway a lot of new signs and small billboards when you join motorway informing you about new speed limit.

What new speed limits? I went to Groningen last week and I saw few 130km/h signs up there including the hour, I think it was 22-6 or something like that.

Just 130 km/h. Of course not at all stretches. In some places only from 22:00 to 06:00 in the rest 24/7. Pretty ok I could say for this amount of cars on motorways here.

PLH, I feel that such influence (on dual carriegaway grade-separated roads technically and legally separated from the slow/weak traffic) might be overestimated. Take into account, for instance, more people moving onto the motorways from other roads. From the data Chris showed us some time ago, Dutch motorways accounted for just 5 % of fatal accidents, carrying 50 % of traffic at the same time, so even a modest pro-motorway shift might increase the safety substantially. I doubt if a motorway speed limit increase, as a matter of course on particular stretches that are fulfiling requirements, coupled with an educational action on the drivers (against tailgating foremost) and traffic management schemes would commit to a sharp accident rates increase.

Seen it yesterday on my trip to Brussels. Just 130 signs, not outside rush hours.

During rush hour the speed limit is enforced by the motorway traffic management matrix signs over the roadway. (just as in any case).

Would anyone know what is it being built right to the motorway A32 in direction from Wolvega to Heerenveen?

Today shoulder running on the A4/A10 between KP Badhoeverdorp and KP Amstel was opened. Especially on the A10 between KP Nieuwe Meer and KP Amstel its a big relief and the daily traffic jam was nearly gone today. What surprised me when I drove there today is that a lot of people used the shoulder lane, while on the A1 near Amersfoort people still struggle to use it here it's immediately used as a new right lane.

Nice. I wonder if the capacity at interchange Badhoevedorp is sufficient though. All in all it is still a regular 50 year old cloverleaf. But that will change when they build the new A9 outside the town of Badhoevedorp. The cloverleaf will change drastically.

By the way, here's some 130 km/h on the A2 near Everdingen.

A59 Empel - Hooipolder

30 kilometers of A59 photographed by me today. This section is noted for the high exit density and the substandard bridge near Waalwijk (left lane has 2 m width restriction and 70 km/h speed limit)
