I don't use that bridge very often. Coming from Calais, I use A27 for Amsterdam and north and north east of Holland sorry Netherlands, and for Schiedam I use the Benelux tunnel. I am really only on that bridge for northern Rotterdam, Delft and the Hague. But when I do use it........

A9 Amsterdam-Zuidoost Tunnel

The design of the A9 Amsterdam-Zuidoost Tunnel has been slightly changed. Instead of 4 tubes with 2 | 2+1 | 1+2 | 2 lanes, there will be 5 tubes with 2 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 2 lanes, the center lane being a reversible lane. This will reduce the cost of construction.

Yes sir. It will be widened, but Amsterdam demanded a tunnel, even though it's not necessary by law to make the widening possible.

When A9 Gaasperdammerweg was constructed as the last leg of A9 in the early 1980's, it was thought of as a local expressway, rather than a major motorway, because the A6-A9 connection was still planned at that time, so this part of A9 was constructed with only 2x2 lanes. They added shoulder running to it in 2010 to temporarily relieve it of congestion. Now it will be widened to 11 lanes.

My parents live right on the edge of that A9. It is elevated on a dyke type of thing, then you got a little river on the south side, and then a housing estate. On the other side there is a high rise estate. Widening the road would mean an entire rebuild of the infrastructure, I'd imagine.

I watched the emergency services using the A9, when that plane crashed back in 1992. Smoke was coming from the other side of the motorway.

Port of Rotterdam: Maasvlakte 2

Queen Beatrix officially inaugurated the closure of the sea barrier of Maasvlakte 2, the latest expansion of the Port of Rotterdam, which projects into the North Sea. The road infrastructure will be constructed in the fall of 2012. Rotterdam will become even larger, a trip from Rotterdam-Nesselande to the end of the N15 at Maasvlakte 2 will require 80 kilometers of driving.

The trip is nearly entirely within Rotterdam municipality. A portion goes through Barendrecht and Ridderkerk municipalities, because their borders are slightly north of A15. However, Spijkenisse is entirely south of A15, the Hartel Canal forms the boundary.

What does Rozenburg come under? Also Hook of Holland falls under Rotterdam, but Schiedam, Vlaardingen and Maasluis are in between...

So if I was to swim from the Euromast to Ipswich, I'd only be swimming in 2 different municipalities...

Do you use the ferries from Stena Line or P&O to UK often?

Stena Line on the Irish Sea, and P&O in the English Channel only. I never use ferries from Holland. Sometimes also DFDS to Dunkerque. We always used to use SeaFrance, but they have gone bust.

This 1975 map shows the road numbers which were planned to appear on the signage by 1979, following the introduction of a numbering system (roads were numbered before only by old E-numbers and various N-numbers, plus internal road numbers which did not appear on signs). This map laid the basis of our current A-numbering system, although various numbers have disappeared.

A15 Botlek Bridge, Rotterdam

The construction of the new Botlek Motorway Bridge is moving forward. This bridge will be part of the A15 widening to 10 lanes.

Some pictures of the A15-widening near Barendrecht (south of Rotterdam). They have finally started with the asphalt.
