I would seriously hate that thing if it were on my route. I think I'd be driving on the wrong way the entire time because my speed is higher than other cyclists'.
And don't think that it's not so bad with the cyclists on my route. Complete sh*tloads of cylists everyday. In the morning (8:00-8:15) this sideroad is usually filled at least half, roadwide with cyclists waiting for the next lights. Nice spot to pass everyone on the left or right :angel2:

The line usually starts at the grey car on the far right of the screen: click

What a waste of tax money.
Normal bicycle-lanes are sufficient enough.
The number of bike-travels over 5 km distance is very, very low.

It's a prestige project of the Zwolle municipality. While the existing cycle path was too narrow (comparable to the sidewalk next to it), they labeled it as a "bicycle motorway", so they couldn't get away with a normal sufficient bicycle path like everywhere, could they?

More like Fahrrad-Autobahn. Fahrradbahn sounds like a bicycle railway.

Gotta love the Dutch aquaduct!

photo: Joop van Houdt

This set of aquaducts has some interesting history. The center aquaduct opened to traffic in 1961 and was the first modern aquaduct in the Netherlands. It originally carried 4 lanes of the A4 motorway. A second aquaduct was constructed in 2008 - 2010 to handle northbound traffic. It has 3 lanes, with space for 5 lanes. The aquaduct on the left is of the high-speed rail.

If the A4 will be widened to 2x5 lanes, all structures, except the 1961 aquaduct have space for 5 lanes each way. A widening hence requires a replacement of this 51-year old aquaduct. It's possible to do this without major traffic disruption, since the 2010 aquaduct has space to temporarily fit 2x3 lanes in it.

Why are such aqueducts so popular in the Netherlands? Aren't draw/high bridges cheaper to construct instead? Is it because of traffic delays or the bridges would have to be high and expensive/ visually intrusive?

Most waterways are so-called "standing mast routes" (masts of sailboats), which means these bridges would need to have a clearance of 20 meters or more, which makes such bridges either expensive, or an obstruction to traffic in case of drawbridges.

And especially on the Frisian waterways in the summer, when the Germans come out in their boats, it would mean congestion on both waterways and normal roads.
