Apparently there is a glut of office real estate in Neththerlands, almost 15% of national office space is vacant

Hehe, remember writing here something in that line some time ago (by another project).

So will it be covered (i.e. with grass, trees above etc?), like a real tunnel...?

I don't think there will be trees on it (lack of ground water). Usually the roofs of these land tunnels are pretty useless except for a large grass lawn.

Part of the A1 (Veluwe) as well. And there is a small stretch of A73 with wide median near Nijmegen, because of a high voltage power line

Parking fees keep rising

Quote:
Car parking fees and permits will generate some €660m for Dutch local government this year, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.

Amsterdam is set to be the biggest earner, with €162m in income from parking charges this year, the CBS said.

Other research from the Dutch retail association on Wednesday shows the average cost of a car park is now €2.73, but that prices have risen 26% over the past four years. In total, 155 of the country’s 403 local authority areas levy parking charges.

The capital also has the country’s five most expensive parking, with the Bijenkorf car park [map] by Dam Square and the nearby Kolk car park costing €5.71 per hour.

A1 Muiden Aquaduct

Construction of this aquaduct at Muiden began earlier this year. The first construction phase involves moving a lot of sand, actual construction will begin later.

2,400 people are currently employed at the SAA construction site.

I don't know the cost of this particular piece. The whole project (widening of 65 km of motorway and constructing new tunnels, bridges and interchanges) cost € 4.5 billion in 10 years. It's the biggest road project ever in the Netherlands, some stretches will be doubled in capacity.

The forecasted 2030 AADT is 300,000 vehicles per day.

NL has no yellow centre marking, so confusion seems not likely to me

Nice, but wasn't it possible to combine the aquaduct also with a tunnel for the railway? Edit, nvm, I see it is not the main line to Heerenveen, but the line to Sneek. The other line in fact got a tunnel if I got it right... http://wijkpaneldezuidlanden.nl/2012...bak/#more-1274

The other railway (to Heerenveen and Zwolle) still crosses the canal with a bridge. As far as I know there are no plans to replace it with a tunnel.

The article you link to is a road tunnel underneath the railway at the Wirdum interchange of the A32.

Great photo update by the way! It's an impressive project which will improve the situation in Leeuwarden enormously.

Oh, ok, thank you. I wondered that those 100 hours would be quite fast for an rail aqueduct .

You can view the different spacing very well on this sign (N33).

Funny it just says Pekela's. They mean both Oude(Old) Pekela and Nieuwe(New) Pekela.

N33 Assen - Zuidbroek

The N33 widening project is going at the speed of sound, so to speak. The project will be finished even earlier than expected, four lanes will be available from June.

They are widening 38 kilometers of N33 to a 4-lane controlled-access highway and are constructing two motorway interchanges between February 2013 and June 2014.
