A20 Moordrecht

The Moordrecht interchange at A20 is being reconstructed. Most importantly, the level crossing is being replaced by an overpass. Often queues for the level crossing start at the shoulder of A20.

You can get pretty much all the info you want here, which is in Dutch, but the dates are clear enough I'd say.

As a long-distance route it was pretty much completed up to Hoogezand in the mid '70s, but that includes stretches which weren't twinned yet (so there was only one roadway with two lanes - which is exactly what the '1e rijbaan' comments in the tables from the above link mean).

The last part towards the Dutch-German border from Winschoten onward was opened on the 6th of april 1993, and the reconstruction of the N7 around Sneek and the realignment near Groningen were only done in 2008/2009.

When Knooppunt Joure and the southern ringroad of Groningen get their upgrades in the coming years then the whole A/N7 will finally 'feel' like a proper autosnelweg all along the way.

A7 is in my opinion the most stunning motorway in Netherlands ,because practically defends Netherlands from sea and its piece of engineering.

road noise

Results of a pilot project with diffractors show they can reduce road noise by 1.5 - 2.5 decibels. They installed diffractors along N413 in Soesterberg. It is hoped that a combination of silent pavement and diffractors may eliminate the need for noise barriers. The total noise reduction was 4.5 - 5.5 dB.

That would be an excellent improvement over noise barriers. Let's hope it can be implemented in more places.

A50 Tacitus Bridge

The works for the renovation of the old Waal River Bridge (Tacitus Bridge) at Ewijk, west of Nijmegen, are on-hold, due to a legal case between the contractor and the road authority. The case is about the replacement of the cables, which hasn't been done very often in Europe before. Apparently it's not about money, but about the replacement itself.

Nice picture. But they better solve the legal case a.s.a.p. The project is already delayed.

N279 's-Hertogenbosch - Veghel

A traffic switch to the new bridge across the new Zuid-Willemsvaart canal is planned for next Monday. The bridge construction is part of the new canal project, but will be incorporated in the planned twinning of N279 from A2 at 's-Hertogenbosch to A50 at Veghel.

A9 Amsterdam

Another "for real?" moment... they planted temporary palm trees along the A9 to aid in the migration of bats. Another one for the books.

This seems better than the not so temporary Squirrel Bridge in The Hague that squirrels won't use.

Some inspiration taken from Aruba

PS: bats are nasty and carry rabies. Reducing its population can be quite an improvement on public health.

Someone need to sell the palm trees? I mean how else can be explained this kind of nonsense than by financial interests?

A50 Eindhoven - Veghel

A50 between Eindhoven and Veghel will get its first major maintenance since opening in 2003. A major project is to raise the J.J. Ewell Bridge in Veghel by 1 meter, to allow triple stack container shipping.

A1/A10 Amsterdam

The first phase of the Schiphol - Amsterdam - Almere (SAA) megaproject has been completed. Both A1 and A10 have been widened to 2x4 lanes. The official inauguration was on 2 July.

Question: to travel between k. Badhoeverdorp and k. Diemen, will this project eliminate the instances in which it is faster during peak times to travel via A9 instead of A10 + A1 (except in cases of lane closures for accidents of course)

A10 is faster. However, there is a major project planned to bring part of A10 underground between A4 and A2, called the "Zuidasdok". The original plan was to bring the railroad underground as well, to create a high-quality development, but that was scrapped due to the poor real estate market and astronomical cost.

The A10 project is still a bad idea, it will feature 2+4+4+2 lanes, wider than the current motorway (2x3 + shoulder running), but it would only feature 2 parallel lanes between two exits in the form of an auxiliary lane between the onramp and next offramp, the through capacity is only 1 lane, which will create a lot of unnecessary congestion and render the upgrade useless.

The projected AADT on A10 between A4 and A2 is 300,000 vehicles per day. The current AADT is slightly over 200,000 vehicles per day (still one of the busiest highways in the Netherlands).
