Other various exits and intersections with interesting configurations, mostly non-motorway:

Bodegraven, A12xN11

Caland, N15xN57:

Drachten, A7xN31:

Exit Dordrecht-centrum, A16:

Exit Eindhoven Strijp, A2. The exit from the north is the only left-hand exit in NL:

Exit Utrecht-noord, A27xN230:

This one doesn't have an official name but i like to call it Waalsdorperplein, N14xN44:

Roermondseplein, Arnhem:

Nijmeegseplein, Arnhem. Biggest traffic light-controlled intersection in terms of amount of "voorsorteervakken'' (don't know the correct english translation) 24 in total:

Hubertus viaduct, The Hague:

Groningen, N370xN46:

Groningen, N355/N370:

Maastricht, on-off ramps for the bridges over the Maas river:

Keizer Karelplein, Nijmegen. A parisian-style roundabout where it's everybody for themselves, a nightmare for learner drivers:

Keizer Trajanusplein, Nijmegen. Although i've come across this strange square lots of times, some parts of it are still a mystery for me:

this sounds very greenish...
I can't believe that you are saying this... ;-))

(don't you know the old roman phrase:

OK, I didn't know that the transit is marginal at DenBosch.

But in this case the 2x3 -> 4x2 conversion doesn't seem to be a good solution.
Not counting that it is very expensive (widening an urban road under heavy traffic is always espensive) and disturbes the traffic on a congested road, this conversion gives 2x2 exclusively for transit - this is good - but gives only 2x2 for local traffic (with a little transit on the A2/A59 common section)

So it does not give more capacity for the local traffic, maybe it reduces the capacity.

Don't you think so?

The AADT of the M0 southern sect. is 80.000 on the danube bridge, and is 50.000 on the other parts.

I don't know how much is the transit at BP.
Some state that it is very large. They want to divert it to the GREEN semi-bypass (M8), and they lobby for it very agressively.
(see prev post.)

But I think you are right: it is small.
(at least the portion that could use the GREEN bypass is very small.
but the portion that could use the RED bypass is significantly bigger.
(in other words:
the GREEN would be good for the international transit
the RED would be good for all transit (intrnl. and regional, local)

adding another bridge on the southern section is scheduled for 2011.
it will increase the capacity from 2x2 to 2x3+em.lane.

(moreover there is another bridge U/C on the northern M0 section)

Really nice photos, but it seems to be flooding.
Wouldn't it be better to post a link to an external gallery?

Will the German BAB 52 be connected to the Dutch highway network in future?

Not with the motorway network, i'm afraid. However, a 2x2 expressway is recently built between the A73 and the border, the N280. The germans are busy to widen the road on their side, i believe.

Pictures: N377 Zwolle - Twist

N377 Hasselt - Twist > 134 pictures

I made a journey today to the oil fields of Schoonebeek, the largest inland oil field in Europe. There isn't much activity on the Dutch side anymore, but plenty on the German side. A few pics from the pumpjacks or noddingmachines there. The N377 is a major east-west connection in the north of the Province of Overijssel. It connects Hasselt with Coevorden via various towns en route. The N377 used to go all the way to the german border near Twist, i've taken pics of that section too, however, it's now the N863, and signed, which is odd, because they usually do not sign road numbers of 400 and above.

I've put the photo's in an album, because i don't want to slow this thread down with 134 pictures

The route:

Nice pics, I like pics of small border crossings of NL with other countries. Last year, I made a bike trip in the province of Limburg. Close to Sittard I crossed the border, on one of the ancient smuggle routes to Germany (I never crossed border by bike before). When I got back into the Netherlands, I didn't notice, there was no sign or whatever. Strange!

N379 Zwartemeer - Gasselternijveenschemond

N379 > 53 pictures

I did another route today, and that was in eastern Drente. This is a region with unusual place names, how about Barger-Compascuum, Emmer-Compascuum, Tweede Exloërmond, Eerste Exloërmond, Drouwenermond, Valthermond and the best: Gasselternijveenschemond. This area is called the "bog colonies", because in early days, workers moved to these area's to dig up peat.

The route:

During another bike trip I stayed one night in Valthermond. They only thing I didn't see was that Valthermond is 7 km long. Luckily my B&B was only 2 km from the entrance of the village. I thought it was the longest "lintbebouwing" in Drenthe (7 km long, 200m wide).

I drove across 55 roundabouts today

Rotondomania is a serious issue in my opinion. They are great for low speed roads, but the Netherlands is really "paved over" with roundabouts these days, to use a certain term not uncommon by some people.

This place looks a lot like an American village. I guess thus the name "Texas City". That is how an American city would look like if they adopted Dutch signs and marking Looks neat.
