Yes, great news. Should make a dent in volumes on the A13. I hope the extention south from the Benelux interchange goes ahead too.

Yeah, that news is about the section near my house, not the section near your house

The new stretch is not the missing link between The Hague en Rotterdam, but the missing link in Noord-Brabant (Dinteloord-Halsteren, bypass Steenbergen). People on the A13 still have to wait until next year.

It will make a big difference. Maybe1/4 of the traffic on the A13. But the A14 (or whatever) will be the big game changer, taking about 40- 50% of the traffic off the A13 at Zestienhoven.

Yes it will, but only from 2015 because this news was about the stretch around Steenbergen and NOT about the A4MD!
And I assume you're referring to the A13-A16 link later in your post?

Yes keokiracer. I'm refering to the A13-A16 link later in the post.

I travel on the A13 about 4 to 6x a week on average, nearly always in peak periods so I see the patern of how the traffic splits up at Overshie/Kleinpolderplein clearly. I think the A4 extension will make a significant reduction on the A13. Maybe 1/4.

KIWIKAAS you're confusing two projects. Two missing sections of the A4 are currently being built.

Section one, between Delft and Schiedam, which will help a lot with reducing traffic on the A13. I think you're refering to this.

Section two, between Dinteloort and Steenbergen, near Rosendaal. This is about 55 km from the start of the A13 in Rotterdam. It is being built to relieve the A17 and local roads. It has no direct link to the A13, you still have to use the A29 then A15 A20, or A29 then A16 A20 to get to the A13. Again, another 55 km.

The section that Chris mentioned, and that will be opened later this year is section two.

Once both projects are complete, one section of the A4 is missing, which is probably prohibitively expensive to build.

My appologies. I thought Chris's post was refering to A4 Delftland that's why I got all excited. The header on his post didn't show on the mobile version, thus the confusion from my part.
Good news all the same
Thanks koeki and McBeans for taking the time to reply

Fingers crossed for another mild winter. If the A4 project that we're all waiting for (Delft - Schiedam) gets two mild winters in a row, with any luck we'll see that one pulled forward by a couple of months as well. They are making tons of progress already.

Yes, construction was really put into high gear late last year. They built the entire tunnel in just a year, and also really started excavating the depressed segment north of Schiedam.

Nice map. However an accurate description of Belgium compared to the description of Germany should be:

"We think you're a whole lot more clever, but we're not willing to admit that yet".

Weeeeelllllll, should you check up on facts on Fyra... If you're real quiet, you can still hear Marc laughing in Brussels over the "Slimme Hollanders".

This whole affair cost us 8 Billion euros, and our ministers, ambassador, and a whole host of policy makers were involved. All that is running now is French/Belgian owned.

http://nos.nl/artikel/624885-belg-wi...egen-fyra.html

I thought it very well played by our zuiderburen.

The 8 bn could have been the Blankenburg tunnel, the A13/A16 link, A4 link benelux - klaaswaal, and an upgrade of the A27 around Utrecht.

Now it's like it was never there.

Because one example means of course that your entire statement is true. And btw: The map is about prejudice, not about truth.

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail!

The Fyra trains didn't not cost € 8 billions. The amount lost by NS on the whole Fyra issue (money lost on trains, -compensation from AB, lost revenue due to delays into entrance in service of V250, fines paid to regulator authorities) is around € 680 million.
