Some more photos of the Coloradoweg Viaduct at Maasvlakte (Port of Rotterdam). This was completed recently due to the Maasvlakte 2 port extension project.

speed limits

The speed limits went up on several motorways on 19 December.

* A4 Schiphol - De Hoek interchange (A5): 120 > 130 km/h
* A20 N213 - Vlaardingen-West: variable > 130 km/h
* A59 Geffen - Paalgraven interchange (A50): variable > 130 km/h.

These stretches are not particularly long, but are a step to reduce short distance speed limit changes and remove the confusing variable speed limits.

More speed limit increases are planned for 2015 and 2016.

Probably around 100,000 vehicles per day, depending on connecting roads. Its capacity is circa 11,000 vehicles per hour (3-4 times that of a regular 2-lane turbo roundabout).

Nice pics of this impressive traffic hub so close to my home which has now been completely finished. It is a huge improvement over the old situation.

With the turboplein in Naaldwijk, did they also complete the new N222 alignment leading there?

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail!

The 'Heetmanplein' in 's-Hertogenbosch was reconstructed a while ago. All through traffic in this part of the Netherlands drove through it until A2 was completed in 1970.

A street train in Deventer in 1990. There were trains on Dutch streets in several cities. They have disappeared since.

A59, Waalwijk

The bridge across the Drongelen Canal near Waalwijk. It will be replaced by a motorway-standard bridge in the coming years. The current speed limit is only 70 km/h, it is a leftover from the time that N59 was twinned to a motorway on the cheap. A59 used to have a huge amount of exits in this general area.

Note how the off ramp immediately enters a residential street.

A58 Oirschot

The A58 at Oirschot. It crosses the Wilhelmina Canal on a substandard bridge. This segment of motorway opened to traffic in 1966. Back in the early to mid-sixties they often omitted shoulders on bridges due to cost.

The current traffic volume is 80,000 vehicles per day. A widening is becoming more likely, and it has been proposed to replace the bridge by an aquaduct, though that seems a bit unlikely to me due to the higher cost.

Nice, Meester H.F. de Boerlaan, when I was a young boy I went there regulary watching trains.
The last time this track was used was on May 9, 2003 by the VAM.

I'm finding conflicting information about parking on the area. Apparently many parking garages will be closed until midday Jan 1st. I don't want to risk park the car on streets (vandalism, rogue fireworks etc).

Does anyone know a particular place that might be a safe alternative to park the car? I was thinking of the Erasmus hospital complex, but couldn't find any online info on whether their parking garages will stay open as usual throughout the night.

Public transportation is not an option since there is none after 20.00 till 8.00 the following day.

Yes. It was very underwhelming. Parking itself was extremely easy, there was a ton of empty spaces on Schowburgplein garage.

Street running is still common in the United States or in Switzerland, like in Oakland and in Chur, or in Le Prese. In these latter cases Google's camera in even on a train rather than on a car. There are even more examples near ports.

In most cases there is one track, so with trains travelling against road traffic when going in one direction. This setup was very common with earlier tramways (1880-1920), although this wasn't much of a problem at that time.
