I believe that the "hectometerpaaltjes" still sign the A4, but isn't it true that this will be changed?

I'm not sure, but i have seen hectometer poles (mile markers) showing A4, however, i believe they've changed it.

Some other oddities:

The A18 is also known administratively as "Rijksweg 15".
mile markers show "A38" on the road from Interchange Ridderkerk to Ridderkerk, however, it's not signed as such. It's probably way too short.

Nice. About airport exits: They usually seem the most complicated in most countries.

It's nice to see this strange turn in Schiphol's exit, now it seems much more dangarous then when sitting in a car.

These pics are a good way to see Dutch idiocracy in road designs. Only motorways are allowed to have full standard turns, and that's why this Schiphol exit has an unnecessarily sharp bend. Also, the grade-separated interchange in Tilburg is also an exception, according to Dutch roads, it should have been a traffic light or semi-grade separated (only through lanes).

It's really appaling when you are coming from Germany into the Netherlands; narrow lanes, stupid road markings, slow speed limits, way too much roundabouts, traffic lights, chicanes, speed bumps, one lane roads, etc.

We sure did a hell of a job making road travel as uncomfortable and inefficient as possible in the Netherlands

Exit Schiphol is horribly reconstructed a few years ago. Before that it was a normal trumpet with smooth bends.

Motorways in the Randstad with 2x2 lanes.

The Randstad is not clearly defined. (one of the biggest flaws in Dutch statistics imo). Population stats differ between 7 and 10 million inhabitants, depending on definition. This maps shows about 8 - 9 million inhabitants.

Apparantly, all traffic is stuck outside the A10. Besides that, the A10 has some more capacity, so it takes a little longer before it gets jammed. On the other hand, maybe the traffic jam detection malfunctions.

It peaked at 102 traffic jams with 506 kilometers / 315 miles jammed. I don't know the US version of a traffic jam, but in the Netherlands, traffic has to go slower than 50km/h / 31 MPH for 2 kilometers / 1.5 miles to be called a traffic jam.

According to that picture I should have had 20 kilometres of traffic. In reality I do 45 minutes over 70 KM, which makes average 100 km/hr. (that's faster then the speedlimit in LA) You caught the peak of the traffic, but when I leave half a hour earlier I have no traffic at all.
Difference with LA is that we have alternatives like public transport. We also have good biking lanes...

LA speed limit is mostly 65 MPH, if my information is correct. 55 MPH is only on the freeways around downtown.

Berenkuil was built in 1938. And what do you mean by "peace of Dutch aerial" ? (vrede van Nederlandse lucht-)

Interesting survey by Ronald Waterman, traffic expert in the Netherlands.

He calculated most of the traffic jams are solvable with the widening of 400 kilometer of motorway by 1 lane per direction.

This means that 2,88 square kilometers of the 41.000 square kilometers of the Netherlands needs to be paved. This certainly rules out the stupid and populist leftwing terms of "paving over a country".
