The sign has the wrong typeface anyway.

Am I allowed to be a bit sentimental about this?

A very nice update from member ABoe in the Dutch Section of this forum on the new Botlek Bridge which complements the 2 x 3 lane tunnel just beside it.

It is the only lift bridge in the Dutch motorway system. Most other movable bridges are bascule bridges and a few swing bridges.

The lift bridge deck is 2 x 88 m long. Not the longest single lift bridge deck, but one of the very few lift bridges with two decks. This allows more ships to pass through, resulting in fewer bridge openings. But it can't operate at full capacity until the old bridge is demolished, which may not be until 2017, when the rail connection is finished. The rail connection is a secondary one, because there is also a Botlek rail tunnel.

Although the Thomassentunnel is now the main connection, is the old Caland Bridge beside it, which is still in use and is also a lift bridge, still a part of the Dutch motorway system?

Technically the Caland Bridge is not a motorway. The old Botlek Bridge also wasn't a motorway, but the new tunnel has motorway status.

Both are a rijksweg, like the Noord Bridge (rijksweg 915).

The Caland Bridge is also in need of either major renovation or complete replacement. One variant takes the rail corridor closer to the canal, but funding only covers renovation (replacement of the entire bridge deck and technical installations).

What is the % of trucks of total traffic on A15/N15 near the Botlek bridge?

The photo is perfect for explaining ''NIMBY''.

Agreed, even worse how people near Nieuw Beijerland and Spijkenisse can be opposed to it, do they want to be isolated ?

I agree.
Overall, we spend far to much on prestige projects to satisfy NIMBY and eco terrorists, instead of getting the biggest quantity of new infrastructure. It's cringeworthy how much we could have built for the money, but instead spent on tunnels, sunken infrastructure, and other reckless throwing away of tax money.

N356 Drachten - Dokkum

This aerial video shows a nearly completed northern segment of the new N356 expressway from near Faenwâlden to Dokkum. They built this only 16 months (hello Germany )

A15 Botlek Tunnel

The Botlek Tunnel in Rotterdam was repaved last weekend. Visible is the approach to the new Botlek Bridge.

They also demolished a bridge across A15 just east of the Botlek Tunnel.

A park and some sport grounds. When and how depends on the local government.

A windstorm has downed many trees in western Netherlands. There are wind gusts over 100 km/h and 9 - 10 beaufort has been measured along the coast. A windstorm like this is highly unusual in July.

A12 Ede - Arnhem

Recent aerial photos of the A12 widening from Ede to the Grijsoord motorway interchange (A12/50) near Arnhem.

The Utrecht - Arnhem railway overpass. This is the narrowest stretch of A12, with no shoulders on the bridge.

The Grijsoord motorway interchange, looking north. The loop ramp from north to west was recently expanded to two lanes.

Between the Grijsoord motorway interchange and the Oosterbeek exit.

Is it common for there to be all those street lamps along expressways which aren't in urban areas in the Netherlands? That doesn't often happen in the US.

Yup, only some of them will not power on at the night to save on power expenses for the goverment. They are finally figuring out that it's kinda waste of money to build street lamps on every highway in the country, only touche they already build a lot of them

I think this stretch is unlit. But they installed lights so they can work night shifts along the entire route. That is one of the reasons why a motorway expansion project takes only 1 - 2 years to complete instead of 3 - 4 years in some other countries. In fact, the bulk of A12 widening with traffic impact will be done in 2 x 6 weeks, except for bridge works outside traffic.
