They don't have temporary construction light-trailers ? They are common in the US

Those aren't as convenient for longer stretches of road where they work on simultaneously.

There are no remote areas in the Netherlands, there is always an electricity cable nearby so they don't have to rely on diesel generators that much.

That's actually really interesting, I never imagined that would be a reason. I wouldn't have thought they were bright enough but maybe they just turn down the wattage when the road is open for traffic, or change the bulbs. Makes sense too that urban expressways here tend to get done quicker, which I always thought was purely due to priority and more workers on the job.

N315, Doetinchem

The new bypass of Doetinchem opened on 14 July. I made a video today.

A truck crashed tru the guardrail at the A2/A10-East intersection today.

It looks pretty messy but the truck driver was able to get out of what is left of his truck by himself.

Will A12 feature 2x3 lanes after construction or just 2x2 lanes with temporary left shoulder running like west of Ede? Why the hell is there a left shoulder which is only temporary be opened for traffic? That looks like waste of money .

There will be three permanent lanes each way on that stretch. There are some plans to turn the left shoulder lanes from Ede to Utrecht into permanent lanes as well, the motorway is wide enough for that to happen.

These left shoulder lanes or 'plus lanes' were invented so they could bypass some of the slow procedures of regular widenings. However, this advantage does not exist anymore, so they won't construct any new plus lanes except on A15 near Rotterdam where a physical widening would turn out exceedingly expensive but they wanted to keep a shoulder at all cost due to all the petrochemical plantst in the area. So they built a narrow plus lane to allow 3 lanes of capacity during peak hours, while maintaining the shoulder. There are a large number of pipelines next to the A15, moving them for a regular widening would be far too expensive.

Is there a map of Dutch motorway network showing the number of lanes, e.g. like the German map.

Yeah that's a bit of an oldish map. I quickly cooked up a version with the ABatlas-online colors at least, but it's full of mistakes (for example it lacks some freeways but does include Autowegen which sometimes aren't even 2x2/grade separated):

Have you got something better, Chris? I might go and work on this thing a little bit more to see if I can get it up to speed.

e: Updated for color and an even larger image.

There is a legend ( click on pic to get full version) !

EDIT:

Doh, I didn't notice the post above, my bad .

A1, A15, A20 and A27 should be widened asap imho. Along with completion of the A4 missing link ( not MD but NieuwBL ), A13/A16 link and the A15 expansion eastwards.

Why aren't the A256, A200, A270, A325, A326 and A348 freeways?

Was just about to ask what roads should have priority for expansion. I agree on all of above and would also like to add A6 between Almere and Lelystad.

The Utrecht - Arnhem railway overpass. This is the narrowest stretch of A12, with no shoulders on the bridge.
I can't see it clearly in this picture, but it looks like they're not making the overpass wide enough for doubling of tracks underneath. Is this correct?

I once posted this list on another forum:
In an ideal world
Quote:
A1 Amersfoort - Hengelo 2x3, Amersfoort - Muiderberg 2x4
A2 shoulder running in Limburg > actual lane
A4 @ Leiden 2x4, Leiden - Den Haag-Zuid at least 1 lane extra per direction, Den Haag-Zuid - Delft widening to 2x3, A4 MD with 2x3 (+space reservation 4th lane). Spijkenisse - Klaaswaal 2x2 with space for 2x3, Klaaswaal - Hellegatsplein + Zoomland - Markiezaat > 2x3 .
A5 Raasdorp - De Hoek 2x3 (a shame that the little tunnel underneath the runway isn't fit for 2x3 so you'd need smalller lanes or something like that)
A6 Lelystad-Noord - Almere 2x3
A7 Zaandam - Purmerend 2x4, , Purmerend - Hoorn 2x3, Joure - Groningen 2x3.
A8 A8-A9 2x2 highway, Coenplein - Zaandam to 2x6
A9 Besides stuff in the SAA-plan and the Badhoevedorp rerouting; shoulder running > actual lanes
A10 A10-Zuid 2+4+4+2
A12 Shoulder running > actual lanes. Duiven - Oud-Dijk 2x3.
A13 The Hague - A13/A16 2x5, A13/A16 2x3
A15 Papendrecht - Gorinchem + Deil - Nijmegen 2x3. A15-A12 as 2x2 highway
A16 Moerdijkbrug 2x5 until Randweg Dordrecht (N3), improved interchange with N3. Breda - Antwerpen naar 2x3
A20 Gouda - Rotterdam 2x3/2x4. A24 - Kethelplein 2x3
A22 Higher Velsertunnel (4.3 m clearance)
A24 Blankenburgtunnel
A27 Breda - Utrecht + Utrecht - Almere at least 2x3. Reconstructing Hooipolder interchange
A28 Amersfoort - Nijkerk 2x4, Nijkerk - Zwolle 2x3
A30 Rebuilding 'interchange' Barneveld
A31 though Harlingen 2x2 (being done)
A38 underneath Lek river towards N210
A44 Modernize (wider viaducts etc.)
A50 N50 --> A50, Zwolle - Arnhem 2x3 (so also getting rid of shoulder running), Ewijk - Eindhoven 2x3
A58 Eindhoven - Bergen op Zoom at least 2x3 (south of Breda 2x4)
A59 Zonzeel - Oss 2x3
A65 N65 --> A65
A67 BE border - Zaarderheiken 2x3
A73 Ewijk - Boxmeer 2x3, Zaarderheiken - Tiglia 2x3

Because I cribbed that shit right off of someone else's map and couldn't be arsed to change too much in that regard.

A1 Apeldoorn - Beekbergen

Rijkswaterstaat reports that the Council of State has rejected the appeals against the reconstruction of the Beekbergen motorway interchange and the construction of auxiliary lanes between the Apeldoorn-Zuid exit and the Beekbergen motorway interchange (A1/50).

The reconstruction of the motorway interchange includes the construction of a direct connector ramp from east to south (Deventer to Arnhem), as this link carries a lot of trucks from A1 to A50.

The current 1970s cloverleaf:
