A6 Lelystad

I took some photos of A6 at the Lelystad-Noord interchange today. This stretch has a very wide median.

A wall of trees. Luckily they are a bit further from the road than in Belgium or Germany.

N305 Zeewolde

Provincial road N305 near Zeewolde was upgraded to a four-lane divided highway recently. It is an autoweg though it has traffic lights at every intersection. The speed limit is 100 km/h.

Here are a few photos from a bicycle bridge which I took yesterday.

Juliana Bridge, Alphen aan den Rijn

Holy sh... take a look at this.

A bridge deck was lifted with two large cranes when they tipped over and the whole thing crashed into a neighborhood.

A1, Muiden

Construction of the aquaduct of A1 near Muiden, just east of Amsterdam. It's part of the widening to 12 lanes.

Holy sh..., any victims? I hope not, at least not among the inhabitants of those houses.
I witnessed the crash of big crane being installed at building site in Poland in the begining of ninties. It collapsed onto neighbouring commie block destroying a few flats at top floor.
It was the loudest sound I had ever experienced, way louder than any thunderstorm or even jet fighter going supersonic, way above pain level, and we were eating sunday lunch inside the flat just with the window open.

From what I've read there have been no casualties among humans. There was one dog that died.

Has RWS definitively adopted as a policy to let wildflowers and wild grass to grow uncut on highway ROWs as a way to make natural corridors for bees and some small birds?

I read about that a while ago - some studies on how letting low-height grass and flowers to grow free near highways was a boon for bees and birds.

It doesn't seem such a good idea to put a crane on a pontoon, let alone two. A crane ship seems much better idea.

Vintage dashcam: footage of various parts of a road trip from Vinkeveen to Schaesberg (southern Limburg) in 1959.

Most of the video is in color, except for the first two minutes from Vinkeveen to Utrecht. It follows the present-day A2 corridor south. The second half are mostly scenes from the hilly mining towns in southern Limburg.

Will they make a smooth connection between the A and N roads? I thought that was forbidden in the past?

A free-flow interchange is preferred when there are two stroomwegen. A stroomweg is the technical term for a motorway or expressway, which can also be N-roads.

So it is not as strict that N-roads are never allowed to have a free-flow interchange with A-roads.

This is the interchange:

Spijkenisse

Replacement of the Spijkenisse Bridge in 1978. The bridge to the left opened in 1904. The new bridge to the right uses the bridge decks from the old Moerdijk Bridge (A16).

Spijkenisse has an unfortunate location, it is dependent on two bridge routes. The Spijkenisse Bridge malfunctions frequently leading to long delays. The new nearby Botlek Bridge also had numerous malfunctions in its first months of operatoin.

The new Spijkenissebrug has the option to lift two decks simultaneously in order for ships to pass in two directions. Too bad that it has lasted until now before the new Botlekbridge received that option. Which can still not be used until the old Botlekbridge will be demolished in 2017.
