yes, I was wondering about the reversible lane too.
Anyway, the traffic volumes through the tunnels probably won't increase that much. Traffic now coming from the A13 to the A4 via the A20 will simply drive straight through. There might be an increase due to traffic heading south using the A4 to A16 via the A15

Well coming from the south you will have 2 choices now, A16>A20>A13 or A16>A15>A4, I'm hoping this till take some traffic from ring north and east, but I fear this will lead to problems at the Beneluxtunnel.

I think both the Beneluxtunnel and intersection Vaanplein (since traffic heading further South has to swing back East on the A15 first in order to do so) are the two biggest potential bottlenecks after the A4MD opens. We'll see how they're gonna cope with that.

I'd rather say the Haringvliet-bridge (narrow and can open) than the Hellegatsplein interchange. Though there is a short evening rush hour traffic jam on A29 southbound daily due to slow moving traffic on N59 westbound

So, I was in Holland two months ago; picked up a rental in Amsterdam on the morning of Saturday, July 4, and drove up to Groningen using the A7 and A/N31. (Then back using the A6.) It was only after I got back to A'dam that it dawned on me that the roads around Leeuwarden hadn't matched what I'd seen on the map before I left: I hadn't had to go through (or along the edge of...) the town, traffic lights and so on. But as I say it dawned on me afterwards; I wasn't paying attention to the route numbers and such as I went through the area.

Was that a new segment of the A/N31 around the town? Is anything more happening up there, is it going to be all "A" at some point...? Just curious.

Also, how close is that bit of the A4 between the Hague and Rotterdam to opening?...The version of Google Maps that comes with the IPhone 6 seems to show it as already open.

Yes, that was the new segment, which opened on december 18th 2014. I can give you a 99.999999999999% chance of the N31 around Leeuwarden (and on to Drachten) not becoming an A-road in the upcoming 50 years.

Speaking of december 18th, the A4 Delft-Rotterdam is scheduled to open on december 18th this year.

Was there a reason why you chose the N31 instead of simply following the A7?

Bedankt.

I chose the N31 because I thought it'd be more interesting, and I knew I'd be on the A7 going the other way later.

My most interesting drive in the Netherlands was the next day, when I tried to get as close as I could to the Tour de France finish at Neeltje Jans. I did get a spot at the 5 km mark on Schouwen-Duiveland but then we got heavy rain, I got soaked and went on to Antwerp.

That day I drove through/around Rotterdam on A-roads as long as I could (4, 13, 20, 16, 15) to...Spijkenisse if memory serves, then basically the N57. Got lunch to go in a place called Burgh-Haamstede. Then trying to get out of that area while the Tour was still coming through (because of being soaked and giving up) was damned annoying (since the main roads were closed) but I eventually found my way to the A58....

My bad, I meant Vaanplein. Edited my earlier post.

The friend in question seems to be mostly in Mayrhofen. We're in touch on Facebook; still haven't met in person.

I know he misses SSC terribly. :-P

Can't believe you hadn't noticed discussions were less stimulating lately....

Anyhow, a direct quote (I swear it):

"Tell them I miss them so much that I can't bare looking on ssc anymore as I'd only break down in tears grin emoticon"

I know that he didn't write for a while but I didn't know that he was banned. I guess the posts in question had been deleted quickly. Unfortunately, that often happens here. Maybe this will also happen to my post soon....

The bottleneck in Eastern Rotterdam area will be solved with the Blakenbergtunnel, won't it?

Also ''solved'' is a big question, I have my doubts about the A20 handling any extra traffic.

The connection is long overdue that is true, but there need to be more conecting roads and links on the north side.

Is the Netherlands freeway network the densest in the world if we look at countries? The Netherlands itself is like one metropolitan area.

I think there is no room for fietspad or cycle lanes in that situation.
Unless you remove trees and parked cars which is fairly unlikely.
My honest oppinion is, that all policies that lead to narrowing/downgrading roads or mixing/preferring cyclists above motorists should be banned internationally.
