N50 Ens - Emmeloord

A panorama photo of the N50 expansion project from Ens to Emmeloord. The super two expressway is being widened to four lanes.
This requires only a small expansion, as the super two already had shoulders, so the cross-section was already wide enough to support 2x2.
They just add a little bit of pavement on the outside. This stretch was due for a major renovation anyway.

A bus-only entrance and general purpose exit is being replaced by an overpass (semi-interchange), allowing access towards Zwolle for general traffic as well.
It used to be a bus-only entrance. This is the third access to/from Emmeloord.

A50

A couple of photos of the A50 motorway near Wapenveld, just south of Zwolle. I took a short hike in the forest.

Two years ago they were doing some pilot projects of not cutting roadside grass so low as to allow some wildflowers to bloom and make these grass corridors as natural places for bees and other insects or small birds to move around. How has that come across?

Hmm, I think you can answer that after driving on such a motorway and then checking your front bumper .

130 km/h

The largest and most influential traffic safety advocacy Veilig Verkeer Nederland has stated they do not oppose 130 km/h on motorways anymore. They acknowledged that the speed limit increase did not result in more accidents or fatalities. They also stated that the Dutch motorways are the safest in Europe, comparable to other top safety countries like the United Kingdom, Sweden and Denmark.

Drachtsterweg, Leeuwarden

It was originally planned in May 2015, then late 2015, then early 2016 and apparently now late 2016. It must be said that the original schedule was ambitious; works started in February 2014.

They had problems;
* with the soil, which was more difficult than anticipated
* leakages; the construction site flooded a couple of times
* the adjacent bridge has subsided
* piling on the north side has fractured, they need to replace 300 piles.

The cost overrun has been over € 5 million, and the delay is now estimated at 1.5 years at least. The province may pursue legal action against the constructor Heijmans.

Knooppunt Joure

The first large-scale works are now visible at the Joure motorway interchange (A6/A7). A6 is in the foreground, the A7 in the background will be routed to here and connect to A6 with 4 direct connectors.

It will be the world first free-flow junction between two bodies of water.

Rotterdamsebaan

A render of the new 'Rotterdamsebaan' into The Hague. The tunnel is named the 'Victory Boogie Woogie Tunnel'. Some preparatory construction is currently ongoing, relocating utilities and demolishing of buildings. Full-scale tunnel construction will commence later this year.

Apparently non of you have kids. Drievliet is well known in The Hague.
There's also signs on the A13 and A4 for it.

I've heard the name, I had no idea it was a tiny and fairly pathetic little theme park in a horrible location on the edge of town.

And no, I mercifully don't have kids.
