The gates had just opened, the crosses go out within 30 seconds after that. I recently watched it happen live (coincidentally)

Not as a reversible car lane, but it is in use as probably one of the widest bike lanes in the Netherlands

The reversible lane is only in use as bicycle lane during calamities or maintenance in the normal bicycle tube which is located next to the metro tube.

A1 Diemen - Muiderberg

A lot of work is planned for this weekend east of Amsterdam.

A1 motorway closures
A1 is closed for all eastbound traffic from Friday 19 August 22h - Monday 22 August 05h. A1 westbound is also shut down from Sunday 21 August 22h - Monday 22 August 05h.

railroad closures
The railroad to Almere is shut down from Friday evening 19 August to Friday afternoon 26 August.

local road closures & detour
In addition to the A1 closure, local roads in Muiden will also be closed to all traffic except for residents with a permit, to prevent a gridlock on the local road network. The area has only narrow roads and cannot handle the 100,000 vehicles that travel eastbound every day. The detour is via Utrecht, people should plan at least an hour of additional driving time from Amsterdam to Almere / Amersfoort.

road construction
They are going to switch A1 to the new eastbound carriageway, and also put into service the new A9-A1 bridge across the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. This will also change access to the Honswijck rest area.

railroad construction
In addition, the large arch bridge of the railroad over A1 will be moved to its final position. ProRail will also work on the railroad and 24 kilometers of new noise barriers in Almere.

A1 Muiden

A somewhat recent (May-June I'd say) aerial photo of the A1 east of Diemen. The eastbound carriageway will open to traffic on 22 August, including the first half of the new bridge across the canal.

It will be demolished. The old motorway has a bascule bridge across the Vecht River that opens rather frequently. A bridge opening outside of rush hour usually results in a 5 km queue. Traffic is intense throughout the day and week with almost 200,000 vehicles per day.

The new alignment is wider (a minimum of 5+2+5 lanes) and has an aquaduct under the Vecht River. It is also farther from the town of Muiden, improving the quality of life there.

For why there are new underpasses on the new A1 section (near the brigde), if the old motorway will be demolished ?

There will be a motorway split on that location. The left bridge on the photo will remain in use for A1 to and from Amsterdam, while the right bridge carries traffic to and from A9.

Presently, A1 and A9 connect just west of the left bridge (outside the photo). The new motorway split will have a large number of lanes (maxing out at 21 lanes if I'm not mistaken). The projected traffic volume is over 300,000 vehicles per day in 2030.

N31 Harlingen

N31 through the northern city of Harlingen will be expanded to four lanes, and an aquaduct is being built under the Van Harinxma Canal.

A1 Diemen - Muiderberg

Another aerial photo of A1, looking to the west.

They originally planned 3 weekend closures for the works, but they're going to squeeze it into a single weekend.

There are four major locations of works;
* where traffic on A9 to Amersfoort will turn off
* where traffic on A1 to Amersfoort will join the new alignment
* the railroad bridge over A1
* where the new alignment of A1 will join the old alignment and A6 at the Muiderberg interchange.

It's a major milestone in the € 5 billion project to widen 64 kilometers of motorway between Schiphol, Amsterdam & Almere.

I haven't found out how many workers will be present this weekend, but it's likely over 1,000 men and women.

A map of the project:

A screencap of the new A1 near the new Honswijck rest area. This is also looking west.
