why should NL bother? They can just build a giant airport on the IJsselmeer or something.

Even the optimistic estimates reckon on about 2030 at the earliest. And that's before we deal with mayoral opposition, public protests, competitor's lawsuits to the Competition Commission, the transport committee being unconvinced by the Davis' report, Parliament having other things on their mind.

But that's for another thread...

That spot was the original place for Terminal 2 of Schiphol. But maybe this is more for the aviation thread.

but this 6 are not usable at the same time, for standard aviation there are 5 runways and they (can) use because of the crossings only 3 of them at the same time

the 'Oostbaan' is often used for landings for aircraft up to 737/A320 size (I've seen this on a number of occasions ). At 2km long it's perfectly good for the purpose. The other 5 runways are indeed all long enough for wide body long haul flights.
Schiphol has exceptional runway capacity compared to most airports.

A4 was shut down this morning to detonate two World War II bombs.

I think the evacuation radius is usually between 500 and 1,500m.

The Germans built a decoy airport in the area in the early 1940s to trick Allied bombers into bombing a different area than the actual Schiphol Airport. So there is a lot of unexploded ordnance in the fields in this region.

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail!

When space is relatively scarce, you have to get creative

No, for a new 500.000-large high-tech city that would take some pressure off Amsterdam conurbation, and be linked to it with a high-speed rail (and be a polder exclusive for electric and autonomous vehicles ). Its center would be equidistant to Urk, Staroven and Enkuizen.

If that is a problem because of the volume of water they store there, build it further south on the Markenmeer.

Was the IJsselmeer planned to be drained entirely?
