Moscow is going to host some rugby world cup in 2012 afaik. But i would say rugby is on same scale as football world cup, olympic games or formula 1. it's on same level as hockey. popular not internetionally, but in specific parts of the world.

HA! I'm an Aussie, and I'm not even dumb enough to but the Rugby WC up with the FIFA WC

Reality is 3 maybe 4 countries actually really give a hoot about it, and even in Australia interest is waning

Just like the cricket WC, the rugby WC is just for the few countries who give a damn, and the rest of the world doesn't give a toss

personally I'm rapt if anyone actually wants to make a big deal about it, and if they have the Olympics a couple of years before WHO CARES

In my opinion the world cup 2018 is going to Russia. Here are some of my thoughts:

1) Russia has never had the opportunity to organize such a major event.
2) FIFA likes to choose those countries where football can gain more popularity connected with a enormous development not only of stadiums but of the whole infrastructure as well. And Russia do really need this.
3) In terms of bribes, Russia has always a step forward
4) Russian lobby is very strong now, and goes together with a lot of political support and is backed by a huge capital that is ready to be invested. This capital comes from private funds as well.
5) The largeness of the country is more a blessing than a curse. Due to the fact that the groups will be divided in clusters there will be no problem with transportation. But to the visitors and teams will be presented a lot of variety between the cities. Which other candidate can present something like this? Sint-Petersburg and Moscow are famous cities. 2 different seas: you have Kaliningrad on the Baltic sea and Sochi on the Black sea. Sochi that is also hosting Winter Olympic Games of 2014. 2 different mountains: Yekaterinburg in Urals and Sochi in Caucasus.

Association Football and Rugby Union Football are different sports.

They have different organising bodies.

The fact that one has chosen England as the host nation for its World Cup in 2015 is entirely irrelevant to the other's imminent decision as to its host for 2018.

Please stop trolling. And while you're at it, please see a doctor about that enormous chip on your shoulder about England. I assure you that your life will be much happier once you have decided not to weigh yourself down with such a wholly unnecessary and childish burden.

I hope the 2018 one goes to Portugal and Spain. Just enough time to raise money to go to my dream destination. And also because I've always been a fan of the Spanish team.

I prefer England 'cause they haven't celebrated World Cup for years and Football was born in England! One more reason, because I'm an England fan and I really hope that they'll celebrate WC 2018. I'll start to save money from today!

given Beijing is yet to endorse the 2026 "suggestion", I'd say it happening is far from certain still at this stage
You are right.
China is taking a pragmatic approach and good one.
Their National Team has qualified only once in 2002.
They are not jumping the gun and want a comprehenssive study before deciding on a bid.
This is what big responsible Nations do, unlike Portugal, despite its tumbling economy dreams of hosting the WC Football, should do some serious soul searching.

My Statement: China would decide to bid for 2026 based on the outcome in December.
So till then 2022 can still be seen as a fight btwn USA, Japan & OZ.
Do not need to bother about Qatar, wish their wisdom prevails and they withdraw now and divert their funds for some developmental activities of the Gulf region.

You could hardly say that the FIFA World Cup and the IRB World Cup are anywhere near similar. The scale is so vastly different on every count.
There were 72 countries playing international friendlies overnight-thats a bit over a third of the total FAs globally.

FIFA could change rules for China. I'm sure it won't affect Australian bid.

If the FIFA Executive Committee will never pre-approve china without a bid, they can scream and shout all they want but in the end, it comes down to who has vote. i think Russia 2018 and USA 2022 unless someone pulls out a shocker (Australia).
And i think that 2026 will be between South Africa, Egypt, China, Brazil, Argentina, and Australia.
