this is while creating pathways for kids is such a priority for the FFA, it is a long process, but they are making ground.

on the growth of the game at the national level, its fair to say AFL and NRL rule the roost, and by a considerable range.

in the past 8 years though, the FFA (or NSL before it) has gone from no tv coverage, to a low level deal with pay TV (which they said was a bonanza at the time), to the point now where most say the pay TV arrangement is under valued and the next deal is likely to jump to digital FTA.

football still has a long way to go in Australia, but IMO it has already past basketball by a street (for popularity), and is closing in on rugby union
Soccer is also the most popular sport for kids in the USA, but doesn't mean much once they grow up...

1. Very unstable political situation. Power is taken by a few KGB cronies and things are playing out as in the Pinochet's Chile. The country is corrupt beyond anything imaginable.
You don't known but USSR had real chances to beat Italians bids for WC1990 (there were only two candidates). And only boycott of LA1984 Olympic Games turned situation and prevented to Soviet bid to win. In addition, Moscow has received the Olympic Games 1980. I don't think that political situation was better at these times.

By the way, I check list of members of leading Russian party "United Russia". There are only 3 members (including Putin) who worked in KGB. For this reasons your version about KGB-rulers is no more than myth of Western propaganda.

Worse than South Africa?

So it's good. It's possible to build modern stadiums.

Infrastructure will be built as part of preparations to WC2018.

Like in every non-English speaking states (Japan and South Korea 2002, Beijing 2008, Brazil 2014 and 2016), courses of English language and search for English-speaking guides/volunteers are part of the preparation program.

Just to make note everyone - he is Ukrainian nationalist. Highly anti Russian with a lot of racist comments on the board. So don't take him seriously.

BBC doubt only in two things - visas and infrastructure. I personally hope Russian Railways will stop prioritize freight service and will improve passenger service. Roads are good enough, so as airports. Metros needs to be improved as well.

As BBC ask about visa - i have a question to british forumers as well - will Britain cancel visa requirements during Olympic Games and World Cup, if get it in 2018?

That's not truth... Russia increases expenses on the infrastructure every year. For example in 2010 the government has directed 280 billions rubles for building roads in 2011 it will be about 380 billions. We have a lot of infrastructure projects and building new highway between Moscow and St Pete's already begun…

um, we actually agree with each other

my post was addressing the original guy who said neither Australia or the USA deserved the WC because we are not football nations

I argue while it will never be the premier sport in either country, the landscape is changing in both about its status for the better

England was host WC1966, EC1996, OG1908, 1948 and 2012, many European Cup finals. World and European Championships are rare, so it is more than enough.

2030 is for Europe. Though there are a dozen of countries in Europe never host it.
2030 - 1966 = 64

64/4 = 16. Just 16 countries to host it in 64 years. And there are a lot more than 16 countries never host it and willing to host it.

Actually EU should be a single candidate. There are no visa requirements between almost all EU countries and it wouldn't be larger than Russia's bid. There are just 1500 km between London and Warsaw. And just 2300 between Madrid and Warsaw.

Haha, "just 2300" is for Russians, it's a huge distance for EU. And with all its politics: rivality between France, UK, Germany, Spain, who will host the final?

There were 19 World Cups. In 2014 will be 20th. Only 16 world states were hosts or will be hosts for 20 World Cups (including Brazil 2014). If England won, it will be 16 states for 21WC!

16 from more than 200 within 88 years!!! It's illogically!

Well...How can you stop talking about politics, when the basic human rights in Russia are thrown to the dogs. Country has no freedom of speech. Would you like a country like this to host the Mundial? I do not.

For example. Russia was awarded the Olympic games. But most of the city of Sochi has no sewer system and what they have is just regularly dump to the sea without any treatment.

The city of Sochi has no storm water facilities. Instead of building the Olympic infrastructure, they should really concentrate on making livable conditions for the Russian citizens. On top of this all. The city of Sochi is isolated from the rest of Russia, connected only by an old mountain road, built during the Tsar’s times..

I'm very sorry, but I'm really don't know - is Rugby popular kind of sport in the world?

Based on what? Rockefeller's and Soros' "Democratic Foundations" lists ?

sarmat, just go away on your beloved forums with the same manipulated zombies and talk about "human rights" all day long.

Yes, I know it, but what about world in general (and particually in European non-English speaking states) - it's possible to compare it with football or Olympic events. I'm saw only few TV-translations in Russia and it's some difficult to know the real level of popularity for this kind of sport.

In other words, will FIFA pay any attention to this? Do they know about Rugby events?
