Even if AFL/cricket grounds were used, (hopefully not) i'm sure something would be worked out with the AFL as the World Cup is a far more important event to stage.

lol. Glad to see that's over with.

How many new stadiums do you think England will have by then? I expect Birmingham and Sheffield will build new stadia especially for the World Cup. I can see a ground share between Aston Villa and Birmingham city in a 40,000-50,000 new stadium, or a shared 40,000+ ground in Sheffield shared by the city's big two teams.

I think you'll find the 2018 WC will go to Europe, most likely England.

I'd love to see Australia get 2022, whether that is realistic who knows. It's still some 15 years away, a lot can happen (stadium wise) in 15 years.

These venues would definitely be used:

MCG (Melbourne)
100,000

Telstra Dome (Melbourne)
54,000

Telstra Stadium (Sydney)
80,000

Aussie Stadium (Sydney)
45,000

Suncorp Stadium (Brisbane)
55,000

Stadium WA (Perth) (Currently planned)
60,000

*Is an oval shape, but will be built so the lower tier will be moved in closer to the pitch.

Potential Stadiums (will need upgrading)

Gold Coast Stadium (Skilled Park)(Currently 25,000)

Canberra Stadium (Currently 25,000)

In 15 years time there will be a need for a larger rectangular stadium in Adelaide (current stadium only has 15,000 capacity). I'd like to see the SA Govt put in to build a new 40,000 seat stadium. That would give us 8 stadiums.

Townsville and Newcastle could possibly host games too, however I doubt that they would.

It would be a dream to have the World Cup in my own backyard. Hopefully it's a dream that is realised before I get too old.

2018 should go to CONCACAF (North and central America), so it should be either Mexico or the USA

How many nations have hosted 2 or more world cups and how close were these together. It seems a bit ridiculous if the USA did get it in 2018 to have 2 world cups within 24 years of each other, no matter what the facilities.

I'm quite positive USA won't get the WC again for sometime yet. Unless of course something goes wrong with another future host country & FIFA needs an emergency host. The USA are well placed in that regard.

If FIFA doesn't want repeat hosts, then they need to back off on their stadium requirements. Its a tough thing for most countries to have 9 to 11 stadiums that meet their requirements.

There would be plenty of Nations that would be happy to create the stadia required. The WC brings a lot into any nation that hosts the event. You'd have to look at some fairly poor nations before you'd get to one who is not prepared to bring their stadia up to scratch.

Have to disagree with that. OF course many nations can build. The problem is creating a bunch of stadiums that end up half full 90% of the time. In that situation you're losing a ton of money. I could also argue that most of those nations that will actually use them to capacity on a regular basis are few and far between.

I'm pretty sure China has a good chance to host 2018, they wanted to bid already for the 2014 but were told by FIFA to bid for 2018 instead. Even Blatter stated this. If England is to host the WC they need to find a solution to the hooligan problem, maybe imprisson them ? But then again there are several thousands of known hooligans in England so......

FIFA currently only allow one host city to have more than one stadium...

There is no longer a hooligan problem in England - the problem is only when the tossers travel overseas away from Mummy or Mrs Hooligan.

The only thing that will stall an England bid, in my opinion, would be if FIFA upped their stadium standards prior to 2018, and insisted on - say - 10 x 50k stadiums. This would cause major problems as most English clubs will have already completed regeneration in the region of 40k seaters and further expansion would be uneconomical. I can't see the FA/government subsidising the construction efforts of certain clubs and therefore disadvantaging others.

It's true that China only has something like three football-only stadiums. But who says those with tracks can not do the job? I remember that Italy90 had a handful stadia with tracks, and they are still using them for Serie'a alright.

But then, I do agree that the Premier stadia look way better in terms of spectating experience.

Point was not China doesn't have such stadia, they can build thousands of them if that's what it needs to accommodate the world cup. Point is, China's football team is a shame to play in the WC. A WC with China will degrade the quality of the tournament, and it would be a huge shame.
